Library Journal - Library JournalThrough first-person accounts and lavish photographs, the authors provide a close look at the coastal ecology of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf coasts to help the reader understand the uniqueness, fragility, and value of the various coastal environments. The book's breadth of coverage is both its strength and weakness. By covering all three U.S. coasts, it appeals to readers from all over the country, but the amount of territory covered limits its depth. The lack of a bibliography weakens the book as a reference tool. However, the timely topic and high-quality text make this a useful addition to high school and public libraries.-- Margaret Rioux, Woods Hole Oceanographic Inst., Mass.
