Editorial Reviews

Journal of the American Medical Association
I highly recommend Treatment of Child Abuse to medical practitioners, social workers, and law enforcement and mental health professionals. All doctors, whether specialists in treating abuse victims or not, have most probably treated someone who has been abused. Child abuse is a common problem, and, despite the outpouring of literature on the subject since the early 1960s, physician training is only in its early stages. If every physician reads this book, we might begin to see the majority of victims receiving treatment for the devastating effects of child abuse.

Contributors (including pediatricians, psychiatrists, child advocates, social workers, and legal scholars) present the current thinking on four major areas of child maltreatment: sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect and Munchausen by proxy. Consideration is also given to topics such as the treatment of offenders, treatment-resistant families, and the research of child abuse treatments. Annotation c.
