The complexity of elbow anatomy and function often leads to an adverse response to traumatic and inflammatory conditions. For this reason, many standard orthopaedic tests advise caution regarding the surgical management of traumatic and degenerative lesions.

The aim of this book is to didactically describe the different pathologies of the elbow and their surgical treatment, thus helping to reduce the incidence of complications such as stiff elbow, heterotypic bone and joint instability, and degenerative arthritis.

The volume, written by world-renowned elbow orthopaedic surgeons and enhanced by colour images and tables, will be warmly welcomed not only by practitioners, but also by students and medical residents.

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Benjamin A Goldberg, M.D.(University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This is the proceedings of a symposium, held in Italy, on the treatment of elbow lesions. The vast majority of contributors are from Europe. From North America, contributors are from the Mayo Clinic, Washington University, and the University of Western Ontario.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide current and relevant information about the diagnosis and management of elbow pathology. These worthy objectives are partially met by this book.
Audience: Orthopedic surgeons are the intended audience.
Features: The book is divided into anatomy and biomechanics, examination, surgical approaches, and treatments of various fractures and arthritidies. Additionally, chapters cover nerve compressions, vascular injuries, anesthesia, and bracing.
Assessment: The book is not as comprehensive as Morrey's The Elbow and Its Disorders, 3rd edition (Elsevier, 2000), but it has more descriptions of triceps management in total elbow arthroplasty than any other book that I can recall. It offers several chapters on implant-specific technique, in contrast to most books that describe a general technique that may not be implant-specific.
