Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Sudsukh Thongthammachat, DDS, MSD (University of Chicago Hospitals)
Description: This excellent book thoroughly covers treatment planning in dentistry and includes a useful CD-ROM for practicing treatment planning in sample patient cases.
Purpose: The objectives are to provide readers with fundamental knowledge for treatment planning patients and to assist the practitioners with all levels of treatment plan development.
Audience: The target audiences are general clinical practitioners, dental students, and instructors that teach students in comprehensive treatment planning. The CD-ROM is a great tool for the students to practice and review their knowledge and it should also prove to be a great tool to use in class for direct clinical case review between the instructors and the students.
Features: The book provides a review of clinical decision making and treatment planning based on current research. It also includes a glossary, review questions, suggested readings and suggested projects that can be used by the students and instructors. The book covers the treatment planning process, phases of the treatment plan, and treatment planning for patients with special needs. It also has clinical practice boxes that provide a quick review. The CD-ROM provides an interactive opportunity to practice treatment planning based on the treatment concepts in the book.
Assessment: This superb book thoroughly covers treatment planning in dentistry for dental students and clinical practitioners. The most valuable feature is the CD-ROM that provides an interactive opportunity for the reader to practice the treatment planning concepts presented by the book in order to better understand and more effectively apply what they have learned to clinical cases.
