    Must have

Vegetation surveys in the twin cities area are a big part of my job. This book is a must have. As big as it is, we bring it out in the field in our backpacks along with a few other books. This book is the best tool we have for trees and shrubs. No others are even close. One thing I have done to my copy to save time. I have added the page number of each genus in the key so you can quickly turn to the right page without having to go to the table of contents or the index first. Great book. Spend the money, you will be glad you did.

    A must-have purchase!

This is a marvelous book describing trees and shrubs in Minnesota. It can be used by students, scholars, and the general public. Photos are in color, are very clear, and provide closeups of parts of the shrub/tree. A map of Minnesota and another of North American show where the plant grows. A line drawing shows the outline of the plant. A voluminous volume that will be used for years to come. It's the best one I've seen for the state. One small quibble - there are a few errors in the index; page numbers are not always correct.

    Trees and Shrubs of Minnesota

Most ideal for folks in forestry. That would include those who are looking at their own woodlands and needing to correctly identify current naturallly growing trees and other plantlife with the goal of selectively removing less desirable trees or shrubs. I appreciated the little map on each page that identified the counties in MN where these trees, shrubs are found.
