Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
The rings tell the life story of these living things. Read about the life cycle of trees. The book is divided into short chapters with brief, introductory information describing the parts of trees, the different types, and how they grow. A question such as, "Did you know..." or "Have you ever..." begins each chapter followed with a response. The bold print words in the main text are defined in the glossary at the back of the book. There are color photographs throughout the book. Some of the snapshots have captions. However, some children may need support to infer and connect the information with the photos. For those readers looking for more information on trees, there is a list of a few web sites. An activity is included; however, creating a leaf to look like a person does not seem to build on or support the concept about the life cycle of trees. This book is a part of the series, "Watch Them Grow." The other books look at the life cycle of butterflies, chickens, cows, frogs, and robins. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
