Trial by Ice is an incredible adventure that pits men against both the natural elements and their very fragile human nature. For within this true story of Arctic exploration lies another tale—an unsolved shipboard murder that led to accusations of foul play and a dramatic inquiry. Now, nearly a century after the crime was committed, Richard Parry draws on new evidence and recounts the amazing story of the killer who boarded the Arctic explorer Polaris—and got away with murder.
With a novelist's dramatic flair and a medical doctor's expertise, Richard Parry had crafted a gripping and authoritative account of an expedition that was doomed from the outset—its members beset by petty jealousy, a lack of leadership, and the ravages of exposure, hunger, and the bleak Arctic landscape.
Trial by Ice is an unforgettable journey into the heart of the Arctic and into the heart of darkness that can brew in men's troubled souls.

This is a book only Richard Parry could write. The reader comes away with a crystal clear understanding of not only what happened on board ship (you feel like you are there with them) but also he describes in perfect medical detail exactly what the explorers medical conditions are and why it is happening to them.
