Set aside some time for this book and plan to re-read it in the future. Augustine gives a detailed exploration of the Christian dogma of the trinity. He contemplates multiple aspects of how we can seek to understand what the trinity is in this world and how that should inspire us to reach it in the next. His comparison of the trinity to the mind, knowledge, and love and then memory, understanding, and love opened up new perspective to the complexity of the trinity that I hadn't been exposed to before. Definitely, one of Augustine's works that you must read.

Highly Recommended. Very good book and there is lot of depth in the writing.

For those who have had problems with the online readings of St Augustine, Hill's translation makes the subject much clearer. The reader will still have to read a couple of sentences and then reflect on it but after all it's theology not the newspaper.

Augustine knows by faith that God is a trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and he is seeking as far as possible to understand what he believes. In the first seven books Augustine begins by searching the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments for clues to understanding and then argues in the language of philosophy and logic to defend the orthodox statement of the doctrine against the Arians.
In the last eight books Augustine seeks to understand the mystery of the divine Trinity by observing an analogous trinity in the image of God, which is the human mind; and in so doing, he also suggests a program for the serious Christian of spiritual self-discovery and renewal.
