In 1992, over the course of 47 shows packed into a month of dates, Dizzy Gillespie held forth at the Blue Note in New York City. With a core rhythm section that included Junior Mance on piano, some 40 musicians whom Diz had influenced were brought onstage to mix it up with the master. As all-star salutes usually go, the music is pretty good, and Diz plays the old master to the hilt, playing good-naturedly around his many disciples. Not the place to start your Diz collection, but a darn good place to end up.
