Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2--A lackluster story about preschool-age triplets that does little beyond showing how ill-behaved these children can be and how ambivalent their parents are in providing guidance and discipline. The narrative is accompanied by simple pen-and-ink line drawings filled in with pastel watercolors. In the first chapter, Aurelia, Sophie, and Prue throw tantrums on a bus after they fight, verbally and physically, over whose turn it is to ring the bell requesting a stop. In "Bath," the girls flood the bathroom and create a "drizzle" problem for their downstairs neighbor. In the final episode, they imagine there's a monster in their bedroom, wake their parents, and then decide to sleep in the hall, thus creating an obstacle course for their father. The girls are allowed free rein without any consequences for their bad behavior. Though the parents react to their children's conduct with embarrassment, bewilderment, or anger, they appear uncertain about how to handle the situations. Addie Lacoe's Just Not the Same (Houghton, 1992) or Maj Lindman's "Flicka, Ricka and Dicka" series (Albert Whitman) are more appealing stories about girl triplets.--Maryann H.
