A thrilling, fast-paced novel of romantic suspense from sensational New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Linda Howard.

For Morgan Yancy, an operative and team leader in a paramilitary group, nothing comes before his job. But when he’s ambushed and almost killed, his supervisor is determined to find out who’s after the members of his elite squad—and why. Due to worries that this unknown enemy will strike again, Morgan is sent to a remote location and told to lay low and stay vigilant. But between a tempting housemate he’s determined to protect and a deadly threat waiting in the shadows, keeping under the radar is proving to be his most dangerous mission yet.

The part-time police chief of a small West Virginian mountain town, Isabeau “Bo” Maran finally has her life figured out. She’s got friends, a dog, and a little money in the bank. Then Morgan Yancy shows up on her doorstep. Bo doesn’t need a mysterious man in her life—especially a troublemaker as enticing and secretive as Morgan.

The harder they fight the intense heat between them, the closer Morgan and Bo become, even though she knows he’s hiding from something. But discovering the truth could cost Bo more than she’s willing to give. And when Morgan’s cover is blown, it might just cost her life.

At the start of this exceptionally engaging novel of romantic suspense from bestseller Howard (Shadow Woman), a sniper shoots and nearly kills Morgan Yancy, the leader of the deadly top-secret GO-Team (global offensive), outside his condo in the Washington, D.C., area. Axel MacNamara, Morgan's boss, concludes that the Russian mob was behind the attempted hit, but Morgan can't think of any reason why he was targeted. Concerned for Morgan's safety, Axel chooses to hide him in the little town of Hamrickville, W.Va., where Axel's stepsister, Isabeau "Bo" Maran, is the police chief. Fiercely independent Bo, who lives with her golden retriever, Tricks, resents the imposition of caring for Morgan, who's slowly recovering from his chest wound. But Bo and curious townspeople adjust to his presence as the uneasy relationship between the stepsiblings deepens. Eventually, Morgan and Bo rehash his shooting and uncover a vital clue that allows Morgan to set a trap with himself as bait. Howard's strong characters, including Tricks and a number of Hamrickville locals, keep the pages turning until the climactic confrontation. Agent: Robin Rue, Writers House. (May)

Troublemaker 3.2 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 22 reviews.

The story overall was good, however, she spent way too much time talking about the dog. Half of the story was spent describing the dog's habits and behavior and only a few pages actually had any action or suspense. I'm used to better from her.

Great book. I love, love, love Linda Howard. Could somebody please get the word out to her that her fans would love more books like TO DIE FOR and DROP DEAD GORGEOUS? A Southern sense of humor like hers shouldn't go to waste.

After waiting three years between books i was very disappointed. Interactions with residents of the town was stupid (was suppose to be funny). She spent too much time on the dog and made it a main character. Found the premise of someone not having law enforcement experience would be a police chief. Worst Linda Howard book I ever read

I have read all of Ms. Howard's books and look forward to each new release. This one just fell flat to me. The dog parts got old, but worse was that I just never really cared for her main characters. I didn't buy all of the animosity between step-siblings over an 8 month marriage 17 years ago. Overall, the story moved so slow, probably because of all of the dog description. Once the ending/climax was nearing, I found myself caring less and less and sadly putting the book down every few pages. This was a first for one of her books.

I reread Linda Howards books over and over because the character dynamics are gripping. I like dogs but was sick to death of reading abouts it's habits! The humans involved were great, just not enough about them! I will reread it, but I'm skipping over the dog stuff!

I love Linda Howard and have read everything else she has written. This is by far the worst novel I've read in awhile. I almost couldn't finish it and finally resorted to just skipping pages just to get the story line. Super disappointing.

There is a reason Linda Howard is one of my favorite authors. Her books are excellent and this one doesn't disappoint. The characters grab you and don't let go. I resented everything that interrupted my reading. There is intrigue, humor, romance and a lovable dog.

Never the same ol plot & characters like Jayne Castle's books. LH has a consistent ability to draw me into her stories. Some i like more than others. You'll enjoy this one too.

Troublemaker by Linda Howard is awesome. This well written book has it all, suspense, action, humor and steam. Morgan and Bo's story is entertaining from cover to cover. Ms Howard's characters are fantastic but Tricks really stole the show. It's been a while since I've read a Linda Howard book and this was a real treat. I enjoyed reading Troublemaker and look forward to my next book by Linda Howard. Troublemaker is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I won a copy of this book think it was Goodreads.

Was disappointed very slow read

I have read all of her books. This one was horrible. Not the story telling that I have come to expect from a great writer. Too much time on the dog, not enough on building the intrigue. It appears that there was a deadline to produce a book, so something was just thrown together.

Disappointed. The story started out great, slowed down in the middle, and had a rushed unsatisfying ending to the mystery. Sometimes the good guys win, sometimes they lose is hardly a satisfying ending. On a another subject, why does Ms. Howard feel it necessary to use such crude language. I have read all of her books but the profanity in this one, turned me off. I enjoy reading romantic mysteries and Ms. Howard is a master of the genre. So why the need for crude language. Troublemaker for me was a great disappointment.
