Overview

"Through a combination of tight, well-structured plots and fully realized characters, Chesser has emerged as one of the top indie writers in the business." -Joe McKinney, two time Bram Stoker Award winner and best-selling author of the Dead World series.

For Cade Grayson, husband, father, and former Delta Force operator, that one warm sunny Saturday in July-later to be labeled Z-Day by some anonymous person probably long dead-began like all the others before, and none since.
With his daughter, Raven and wife, Brook, away visiting her parents in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Cade hopes his immediate future holds nothing but an easy chair, Mariners on the tube, and paring down a honey-do list a mile long.
But those hopes were quickly dashed and his life forever changed when news broke of a clash in downtown Portland between soldiers from the Oregon National Guard and hundreds of anarchist protesters suddenly turned violent and, by one anchor's account, blood-thirsty and cannibalistic.
As the first waves of injured bystanders, Guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals in and around Portland, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population.
Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment Cade hadn't a clue, and he wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the talking heads on the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.
Armed with this new information and now seeing the bigger cities such as Washington D.C., New York, and Los Angeles rocked by the rapidly spreading scourge, Cade ignores the volley of contradictory edicts drawn up by the White House and set into motion by FEMA and DHS, dusts off his tools of war, and loads his truck with supplies.
Unable to get ahold of Brook and Raven and unwilling to leave them at the mercy of some distant politician's inability to hold the nation together, he begins an impossible 3,000 mile journey across a reeling United States with presumably millions of infected in his path and only one acceptable outcome: find Brook and Raven alive-or die trying.

Meet the Author

Shawn Chesser, a practicing father, has been a zombie fanatic for decades. He likes his creatures shambling, trudging and moaning. As for fast, agile, screaming specimens... not so much. He lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, two kids and three fish.

>> This is a pretty decent book in the genre. Fast paced and interesting. At times it feels a little...pandering? Cade is supposed to be this bad ass and seems to keep losing people around him- yet his untrained wife manages to escape every sticky situation she is in. It's zombie appocolypse people are gonna die or do stupid things but strains the credibility when trained special ops guys get killed and a bumbling nurse and her child slip away from every problem...Still, it is entertaining and worth reading.

I am tired of all the Gary Stus in zombie books! Tough guy slaughters anyone that get in his way, never makes a mistake, and is loved by all the women. I'm tired of it!

TRUDGE held my attention for the complete danger filled trip. The excitement never slows and I kept reading past "lights out in the quarters" to determine what this soldiers skills were and could they help him to survive the Zombie mass attacks during his quest. I am hopeful that this author will bring forth a sequel to TRUDGE. I want more of this action!

For the price I was expecting to get a novella. After reading the free portion that was available I realized that it was a full book. I recommend you take a chance. I was engrossed and couldn't wait to see how the characters fared. It is no Trudge to read!!!

i love zombie lit. this book is less a zombie book than a right wing screed against all things government, especially liberals. the author is so transparent as to have the novels president have the same initials as the president (president Odero, really?) our protagonist is supposed to be some special ops hero, yet he helps almost no one, his wife is a stereotypical cliche. witty banter, so beloved in zombie books, is replaced with machismo crap and Alex Jones style conspiracy. i found it very hard to care at all about the main characters, and often wished they would just get bitten.

Author Mark Tufo referred his readers (me) to this book by Shawn Chesser, and I figured I would give it a try! Immediately I was hooked! His writing skills are awesome, his knowledge of the military is amazing and he really makes you feel like you're running with Cade and the gang to fight off the Z's! Great job Shawn Chesser, you always have a fan in me!

This book, the first in the series is a real page turner with great characters. Once you start reading you get easily drawn into each character's situation. I have read many zombie books and this one is right at the top. On second book now and it does not skip a beat.

Just a fun read. Over the top action, impossible action scenes, good guys, and nefarious conspiracy bad guys. Definitely worth it.
