Overview

"Through a combination of tight, well-structured plots and fully realized characters, Chesser has emerged as one of the top indie writers in the business." -Joe McKinney, two time Bram Stoker Award winner and best-selling author of the Dead World series.

For Cade Grayson, husband, father, and former Delta Force operator, that one warm sunny Saturday in July—later to be labeled Z-Day by some anonymous person probably long dead—began like all the others before, and none since.
With his daughter, Raven and wife, Brook, away visiting her parents in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Cade hopes his immediate future holds nothing but an easy chair, Mariners on the tube, and paring down a honey-do list a mile long.
But those hopes were quickly dashed and his life forever changed when news broke of a clash in downtown Portland between soldiers from the Oregon National Guard and hundreds of anarchist protesters suddenly turned violent and, by one anchor’s account, blood-thirsty and cannibalistic.
As the first waves of injured bystanders, Guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals in and around Portland, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population.
Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment Cade hadn’t a clue, and he wasn’t especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the talking heads on the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.
Armed with this new information and now seeing the bigger cities such as Washington D.C., New York, and Los Angeles rocked by the rapidly spreading scourge, Cade ignores the volley of contradictory edicts drawn up by the White House and set into motion by FEMA and DHS, dusts off his tools of war, and loads his truck with supplies.
Unable to get ahold of Brook and Raven and unwilling to leave them at the mercy of some distant politician’s inability to hold the nation together, he begins an impossible 3,000 mile journey across a reeling United States with presumably millions of infected in his path and only one acceptable outcome: find Brook and Raven alive—or die trying.

    Good

    >> This is a pretty decent book in the genre. Fast paced and interesting. At times it feels a little...pandering? Cade is supposed to be this bad ass and seems to keep losing people around him- yet his untrained wife manages to escape every sticky situation she is in. It's zombie appocolypse people are gonna die or do stupid things but strains the credibility when trained special ops guys get killed and a bumbling nurse and her child slip away from every problem...Still, it is entertaining and worth reading.

If you loved the Zombie mini-series on TV that is scheduled to return soon you will not be able to lay this down.

TRUDGE held my attention for the complete danger filled trip. The excitement never slows and I kept reading past "lights out in the quarters" to determine what this soldiers skills were and could they help him to survive the Zombie mass attacks during his quest. I am hopeful that this author will bring forth a sequel to TRUDGE. I want more of this action!

Fast paced read. A real page turner with lots of zombified tension.

For the price I was expecting to get a novella. After reading the free portion that was available I realized that it was a full book. I recommend you take a chance. I was engrossed and couldn't wait to see how the characters fared. It is no Trudge to read!!!

This is the beginning, this is where I got hooked! ;)

Author Mark Tufo referred his readers (me) to this book by Shawn Chesser, and I figured I would give it a try! Immediately I was hooked! His writing skills are awesome, his knowledge of the military is amazing and he really makes you feel like you're running with Cade and the gang to fight off the Z's! Great job Shawn Chesser, you always have a fan in me!

    Hollow, undeveloped characters

This book started off as not too bad but lost it completely somewhere in the middle. I was able to get over the lack of realism (it is a zombie story after all) but I didn't appreciate the hollow dialogue. An example of this would be a conversation between one of the secondary characters and the female president, who ends every sentence to the other character with the word "soldier", maybe four or five times in a row. Who does that? All in all, the dialogue was bad and the characters were only skin deep.

    A cheating rip off

This is such a rip off! I did not expect to pay 99 cent for just 26 pages! There is the same amount of pages than the sample has!

    Page turner

This book, the first in the series is a real page turner with great characters. Once you start reading you get easily drawn into each character's situation. I have read many zombie books and this one is right at the top. On second book now and it does not skip a beat.

So good my knuckles were white from gripping my Nook!

Not as much zombie action as other author's books but it MORE than made up for it with the heart pounding, page turning encounters with lawless humans! I read this in ONE sitting.....could not fathom putting it down! Kudos to the author!

    Good read

    Very good read
Action picks up right from the start. Alot of military involved. More so than most books like this. The inscription on the back of the presidents watch leaves a big question on that something isnt right about yhis out break or a side story right along with the biters.
Shows you cant trust anyone in office
Good starting book in an up coming trilogy. Show the divide between good and evil and the biters arent the only thing you have to worry about. One part really shows how bad and evil the human race can be but payback is paramount. Hopefully when the SHTF for real that more men like Cade will be around to step up and protect the innocent from the scumbags that will cause problems.
Good read shows not everyone is safe, goodguys falling like dominos.
Buy it and the next 2 books when available
