Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Aficionados of HBO's paranormal sensation True Blood know that Sookie Stackhouse, its main character, she isn't solving strange disappearances and supernatural crimes, she works overtime as a waitress at the Fangtasia and Merlotte's Bar & Grill. This collection presents a gastronomical quintessence of this incomparable, award-winning series, combining 85 Merlotte's-worthy bayou recipes and 150 color photographs from the sets and backstage. The book's interviewees include show creator, writer, and producer Alan Ball and Mercelle Bienvenu, the co-author of the Big Easy heritage cookbook, Cookin' Up a Storm.

Publishers Weekly
Dedicated fans of the HBO series True Blood (and of punny recipe titles) will get a kick out of this playful volume. The creator and an associate producer get help from a former New Orleans Times-Picayune staff writer Shalett and Louisiana native cooking teacher Bienvenu, and the result is part series scrapbook, with plenty of stills from the show and all recipe notes and chapter intros attributed to characters, and part cookbook and cocktail guide. Twenty of the book’s 85 recipes are for drinks, purportedly from Fangtasia and Lou Pine’s Biker Bar, for such concoctions as Dead on the Beach, Vampade, Moonshine Rising, and Hair of the Wolf. Though vampire references and related imagery are hardly appetizing, readers who look past that will find a few decadent recipes for mere mortals. In his preface, Ball specifically recommends Summer Tallulah Huckaby’s Betrothal Biscuits. Other notable entries include Up-in-Arms Biscuits and Gravy, What a Fried Chicken, Confederate Ambrosia, The Pearl in My Oyster Po’ Boy, A Hush-ed Puppy, and Sookie Stackhouse’s Fried Apple Pies, Classic Chess Pie, and Glazed Fresh Strawberry Pie in the homestyle Southern collection. (Oct.)
From the Publisher
"On Sunday summer nights for the past four years, households across the land have turned into True Blood viewing party venues, where folks infatuated with the HBO show's campy, sexually perverse storytelling convene and wish they could sip some of that bottled blood sold at Fangtasia and Merlotte's Bar and Grill. Here's the perfect gift for them: A Southern-minded cookbook overseen by former True Blood showrunner Alan Ball that offers over 80 recipes and 150 photos of their favorite characters. Help your friends' sixth season bashes get even freakier with dishes like Stake and Eggs and I Wanna Snapper in Two and some Dead on the Beach cocktails."

Library Journal
There are "unofficial" cookbooks for many popular books, movies, and TV series (e.g., Twilight, The Hunger Games, Mad Men, Downton Abbey), but creator-sanctioned cookbooks are more rare. This one by Sobol and Alan Ball, the associate producer and creator, respectively, of HBO's True Blood, is particularly immersive; each recipe (developed by cookbook author Marcelle Bienvenu) is introduced by a character from the show, and glossy photos of the actors and sets far outnumber those of dishes like The Pearl in My Oyster Po' Boy and Just Desserts Blood (Orange) Gelato. VERDICT This collection of feel-good Southern fare will please True Blood devotees.

By far the most AWESOME cookbook I own!  Having made several of the recipes within days of purchasing I haven't had a failure yet.
The directions are super easy to follow, even for a Yankee girl for myself! My favorite so far are Laffayette's onion rings!

    Recommended for Trubies!

I adore this book! I'm a huge fan of the book series as well as the show. The recipes are fantastic and easy to follow! There simple recipes like "Cajun Potato Salad" and complex recipes like the birthday cake Karl made for Tara's birthday. I also love the drinks section. Great suggestions from Alcide to Pam! If your a Trubies this book is for you!
