Overview

First published in 1915, we're proud to reintroduce Hereward Carrington's TRUE GHOST STORIES.

In "True Ghost Stories," Mr. Carrington presents a number of startling cases of this character; but they are not the ordinary "ghost stories"-based on pure fiction, and having no foundation in reality. Here we have a well-arranged collection of incidents, all thoroughly investigated and vouched for, and the testimony obtained first-hand and corroborated by others. The chapter on "Haunted Houses" is particularly striking. The first chapter deals with the interesting question, "What is a Ghost?" and attempts to answer this question in the light of the latest scientific theories (as of 1915) which have been advanced to explain these supernatural happenings and visitants. It is a book of absorbing interest, and cannot fail to grip and hold the attention of every reader-no matter whether he be a student of these questions, or one merely in search of hair-raising anecdotes and stories. He will find them here a-plenty!

This Large Print Edition is presented in easy-to-read 16 point type.

Book Review - True Ghost Stories

I found this book very interesting mostly because of the way the book is written. People don't really talk like that anymore so it really takes you back into the past and what they beleived in. Some of the stories or tales seemed a little dry, but back then, I am sure they were really scary. Not a bad book to read, especially since it is free. A great way to get to know your Nook!

    Plenty of ghost stories

The approach here attempts to be more scientific, but it still uses a lot of the old ghost stories you'll come across in many of these collections of "true" ghost stories from the turn-of-the-century and earlier. This one, though, has many new ones, including some about reports of a ghostly St. George and his army helping the British in a battle in WWI, which I found fascinating. There's also a bibliography suggesting more books of ghost stories, both fictional and "real".
