Baron Winslow Keating is honor-bound to finish one last mission as an elite spy for the Barbican group even though he just wants to go home and be with his family. But after years of secrecy and absence, his daughters hardly know him and his wife has given up on him.

Lady Elinor has had enough of domestic boredom. She contemplates an affair with a rakish spy, only to discover a world of intrigue and treachery that she never knew existed. Even more shocking, her neglectful husband is suddenly very attentive-quite the jealous type-and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Lady Elinor, ignored and neglected by her husband for over a decade, has had enough. She’s come to crave excitement, which she finds in a flirtation with a supposed spy. Unbeknownst to her, her husband is an actual spy, and considering retirement. When an enemy discovers their identities, adventure ensues. Paying homage to the movie True Lies, Galen (Lord and Lady Spy) brings real creativity and verve to the challenge of transforming the story into a Regency romance. Her Elinor is a resourceful and lively heroine, and as the dastardly Foncé closes in and Elinor is dragged into the plot, she acquits herself admirably. Baron Keating is believably smart enough to be a spy, but too obliviously self-centered to bother telling his wife. Galen’s action scenes are exciting yet never too dark. Her choice of period details adds an extra layer of humor to the action: the Prince Regent, for example, may be assassinated at Lady Hollingshead’s garden party! This lighthearted, fast-paced cloak and dagger romp will amuse even the most discerning Regency reader. Agent: Joanna MacKenzie, Browne & Miller Literary Associates. (Sept.)

This is the second book in Ms. Galen’s Lord and Lady Spies series, following Lord and Lady Smythe (which was, in part Mr. and Mrs. Smith, set in the Regency period). When I first started reading, I didn’t make the connection between the title and the Arnold Schwartzenegger/Jamie Lee Curtis movie True Lies, but it didn’t take long before the title and plot clicked. This book definitely pays tribute to the movie, and despite the dopey picture of Winslow (aka Baron in the spy organization), his description definitely reminded me of Arnold. But, never fear, this is not simply Arnold and Jamie set in corsets and breeches. Oh no. This was a delightful romp with tension and excitement. Elinor has been married to Winn for 14 years now. They have two daughters and she is considering taking a lover (the appropriately name Rafe Trollope) because she’s tired of feeling ignored and unwanted by her own husband who she has no clue is a wildly successful spy for the Barbican Group. She quickly gets caught up in a current mission. I was highly entertained by the appearance of Prinny in this book and how he was portrayed. Talk about a spoiled brat. I swear, he needed to be spanked and taught how to say “thank you” when people help/save him/his life. Unfortunately, he might enjoy the spanking. I’m not sure, and it’s kind of squicky to wonder about that, considering. Sometimes I gotta wonder what the real Prince Regent would think/do differently if he knew how he was going to be portrayed in literature for centuries to come. I love how the book ends and am wildly curious to know who the other female spy within the group is. I absolutely adore Ms. Galen’s books and this is no exception. She simply can’t write these books fast enough for me! I highly recommend anyone who likes historicals to check this book out. And yes, just as an aside, if you know the True Lies movie, there is a scene very similar to when Jamie Lee Curtis did her strip tease/dance for Arnold. Fabulously done without just rehashing the same ol’ scene. Five stars without a qualm! (Book provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review)

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 Winslow has been keeping secrets from his family. Secrets that he must keep. But when his wife starts pulling away, Winn has but one choice and tell her the truth. Elinor’s response is not at all what Winn had expected. This was my first book in this series. I enjoyed the story and the characters but it didn’t wow me. I so want to go back and read book one because I really enjoyed the characters that will be in the book. Also Blue, his story should be fun. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley & Sourcebooks Casablanca in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

Reviewed by Robin Book provided by NetGalley for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book This is the second installment in the Lord and Lady Spy series. I enjoyed it from the beginning. Elinor to me was me or you or the neighbor down the street or next door. She was a stay at home mom who is lonely and tired of making the appearances at all the parties by herself. For all we knew her husband could have been home in his man cave watching sports. Well okay maybe he didn’t have a man cave but he sure as heck made it convenient to be on a mission when he was needed at home. Elinor was getting lonely because Winn was gone all the time. She wanted attention. What woman doesn’t need it once in a while? Ms. Galen has a way of writing a really gripping tale that takes place in Regency England but if you stepped into a time machine it could be happening right now. Her characters are real. I could actually put myself in Elinor’s shoes at times. After being married for a long time you take each other for granted at times. You forget why you fell in love with this person in the first place or if you even did fall in love. But, then one day it hits you that you do love this person that you are married to and you remember everything just as Elinor and Winn finally did. You just need to change things up. I guess what I am saying is that Ms. Galen make so likable you get caught up in the story and stay there right in the middle of things until the very end. I could relate to not only the characters, but also I was able to visualize the people and places as the descriptions were very spot on. I enjoyed reacquainting myself with Lord and Lady Smythe from the first book Lord and Lady Spy. Just as in the first one it shows that husbands and wives can work together and it actually might prove to be fun. The sex and seduction scenes were HOT!!!! She wrote a sensuous story, without it being too erotic…just so sexy. I highly recommend you run out and pick up True Spies along with Lord and Lady Spy and settle in for the week-end with a glass of wine and some enjoyable reading. You will fall in love with the author Shana Galen just as I have.

Written as a combined review, posted at The Reading Cafe 21 Sep 13 5 out of 5 for this reader folks! WOW .. now this is a fun series. The Lord and Lady Spy series by Shana Galen has it all. Mystery, suspense, romance, humour and lots of action. An absolute refreshing read that offers a different spin on historical romance. If you can, try to think along the lines of Mr and Mrs Smith set in the 1800's ... LOL Well .. that is what I was picturing anyways! Brangelina anyone?? LOL BOOK 1 - Lord and Lady Spy REVIEW We are introduced right away to our leading gal, Lady Sophia Smythe who is hiding in a closet in the midst of a mission. Just when she thinks she about to capture her target, in swoops a mystery man and takes her target away. She is FURIOUS seeing all her hard work literally walking out the door. Oh .. BTW ... Sophia is spy working for an elite spy agency in England. Of course, our mystery man just so happens to be a fellow spy (and her husband, although she isn't privy to this yet), Lord Adrain Smythe. Both are ignorant to the others true occupation, each living a lie for the others benefit. Sophie plays the frumpy, charity driven proper wife and Adrian plays the boring proper gentleman who frequents his club and lives a normal life. I tell you when these two find out who the other really is ... well ... GAME ON! LOL Our Lady and Lord have been offered a chance to solve a murder of a very important man. But there is a catch! They are told that whoever solves this murder will be given the position of permanent spy which is enticing to both of them seeing as they refuse to life a boring existence. After some head butting, these two decide to pair up, understanding that they each bring something different in regards to strategy to the table.  Throughout this investigation they are quite the pair. They engage in dangerous activities, often being hunted themselves as they grow closer to the truth. They are completely smitten with the other, especially when they realize that they are both eager to live this lifestyle, but realize that there can be only one winner. Will love or ambition win?? BOOK 1.5 - The Spy Wore Blue REVIEW The Spy Wore Blue is a novella based on a spy we met in the first book. Agent Blue.  Blue and Helena are married, although they have been estranged for quite some time. Blue was overly dedicated to his work as a spy and had little time for a wife, and Helena performed in the opera house when she wasn't drowning her sorrows in a bottle of gin.  Blue has a new assignment that takes him back to his wife. Much to the others desire (or lack there of), they need to endure each others company for the time being as an assassin is out there waiting to strike. Soon enough, these two are falling in love once again, sharing some steamy moments between the sheets, bantering back and forth and ultimately providing an emotional roller coaster for the reader. I have to say, this was a amazing novella. It is very hard for an author to develop characters, provide a love story packed with action and make it all believable in such a short amount of pages. Let me tell you, Shana Galen mastered this! ;) BOOK 3 - True Spies REVIEW LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. Once again we are swept away in another action packed book by Shana Galen. This amazing author can sure write a great book .. great SERIES! Lady Elinor is fed up living in a frozen marriage and has vowed to do something about it. While she loves her daughters and all they bring to her life, she craves more. Elinor craves adventure. Slowly, she begins to break the rules of polite society by attending balls on her own and conspiring to have an affair with a rakish man and just generally stirring the pot. Baron Winslow Keating (Winn) is a spy who has to do one more mission. He realizes that his family has suffered with his current occupation and if he doesn't make amends soon he risks losing then. When he overhears his wife's desire to have an affair he sees red. Determined not to lose his family, Winn turns on the charm and begins to seduce his wife. In the midst of seduction, Elinor is receiving the adventure she so desperately craves (apparently spy life is exciting) and opens her heart once more. In turn, Winn is coming to fall in love with his wife, gain trust and love with his daughters and ultimately living the life he now wants. We see a return of the antagonist Fonce (he was the bad guy in the first book), and an appearance by Lord and Lady Smythe (loved that) in this book. As with the first one, there is never a dull moment and these two really make an interesting couple. Will Winn put spy life on the mantle and finally make his family his priority, or will he lose all??? Get reading!  This is my first experience with Shana Galen and I want MORE! Her writing is absolutely right up my alley and she always keeps it fresh, making me want to flip through quickly so I can enjoy the next hurdle our couples face. She writes hot scenes, ensures that her leading lady and man have serious chemistry, jams in all kind of action, provides witty dialogue, draws you in with mystery and suspense and creates believable characters that you can't help but fall in love with! I will ABSOLUTELY be reading more of her work! HAPPY READING! :)

So far, I think my favorite couple of the series. A more romantic and fun read than you might expect from a spy story. Enjoyable from beginning to end. Terrific, romantic, sweet reading. With a few laughs thrown in totally by accident.

True Spies is full of thrilling action, meaningful romance, witty dialogue and laugh out loud moments and I loved every bit of it. It was fun to see how Ms.Galen took the movie "True Lies" and turned it into a regency and added her own little twists to the storyline. I enjoyed seeing old characters return and loved getting to know Elinor and Winn and can't wait to see them in future books. True Spies is definitely a keeper and I already look forward to reading it again. While this book is a sequel to Galen's "Lord and Lady Spy", which I highly recommend, you don't necessarily have to read it first. This book can definitely stand alone.

Intriguing spy adventure! 5 stars I really loved this fascinating story of TRUE SPIES by Shana Galen I read her first book LORD & LADY SPY and loved it! Again, I was not disappointed with this one either. It's the story of Winslow and Elinor, husband and wife! He is an elite spy and has kept his identity secret from his wife. However, she wants an exciting life too. It's a fast paced romance that will keep you interested until the end. Ms. Galen's romance are so intriguing and fun to read. She wrote a nice believable plot that could have taken place in that era. I love stories set in the Regency era and this one was the perfect read. Beautiful chemistry between her two characters. You have to love them, they are so charming. I highly recommend this book, it's filled with adventure and danger ! You will never be disappointed by Ms. Galen's books! I am looking forward to read her next new novella THE SPY WORE BLUE!

I have a few directions. Anybody new to here, hello. I am TMS and I am the founder of this council, the SSC (Secret Spy Council). Please post your name, age, prefered/favored weapons, and abilities. This is your "job application", so make it good. Check result 2 regularly to see if you have moved on (I am making this my last post on here so that these directions always will stay on here). If I tell you that you have passed, tell one person about this council (if they are interested), move onto result 3. I will be giving new spies minor, beginner missions here. If I tell you to go to result 4, you have moved up and I will be giving you more challenging cases. If you have made it to result 5, you are one of my top spies. These people include the following: myself, Commander, and Chief. It is very hard to make it here, so congrats if you do. Thank you and goodbye.
