More About This Book

Overview

A ride with Truly Nolen is an adventure, and Truly shares the journey of his life in this book. Truly grew up during the Depression and by the age of 10 was working and earning his own money. Truly left home at the age of 16, sailing his 21-foot sailboat from Miami to Annapolis. Always independent, he lived on his own and started several businesses, eventually graduating from college and joining the family pest control company. Truly and his father clashed over Truly’s business ideas, however, and he decided to start his own company. Before he could act on his decision, in 1952 Truly contracted polio. After several weeks in an iron lung fighting for his life, he emerged with strengthened resolve to live, prosper, and be happy. Truly battled to recover, then headed west to Tucson, Arizona, to start his pest control business. Now with more than $72 million in annual net revenue and locations across the nation and in 38 countries, Truly Nolen is one of the top ten companies in the $6 billion pest control industry. The company’s distinctive advertising, bright yellow cars fitted with large mouse ears and tails, and over one hundred classic cars emblazoned with the Truly Nolen name all publicize the brand with a sense of innovation and humor that epitomizes Truly himself. In addition to recounting notable aspects of Truly’s life, the book offers inspiration blended with advice on starting and growing entrepreneurial ventures. The story includes Truly’s passion for excitement and fun, taking you on flying adventures to remote parts of Central and South America, scuba diving in Panama and Mexico, and other memorable events. It also describes Truly’s battle with polio and how he survived to start his own business. Truly’s story will inspire readers to surmount life’s challenges and to enjoy life to the fullest.

    Entrepreneur, Adventurer

Never say 'no' to a customer. Rather, give them better options! An entrepreneur, adventurer giving opportunity to shine the light of awareness into the dark shadows of our imagination, incouraging young adults to continue their founders revolutionary approach towards business development and the belief in continuous evolving role in future business models. Mr Nolen's impressive quality in his willingness to mentor others and help them achieve their dreams follows his passion for life as he sailed from Miami to Baltimore at the age of 16 to his experience- the iron lung with the bout of polio. Heralding change of fortune, from hard times using them as learning experiences lays out his success for today and the future. I'm expecially found of Mr. Nolen's 'Trulyism' - What you know the most about is what will interest you the most and in turn will lead to happiness in work and success as defined by each person.

An adventure in Building a Business and Lifestyle

As a Visiting Professor in Management and an Administrator TRULY ORIGINAL satified my reading interests in case studies in Business Management and Adventure. I had a vicarious experience as Truly, the solo sailor and airplane pilot, traveled the world. Truly is a self-motivated achiever who overcame personnal adversities and tenaciouslly built a sucessful business by demostrating management skills as a risk taker, innovative marketing, and recognizing that the customer and his employees must be satisfied if the business is to succseed. This is a composite of a HOW TO DO IT business handbook for those individuals who want to know what it takes to build their own, expand a family or existing business.

    Truly Insightful!

As an entrepreneur who began with an idea and built the largest company of its kind I truly identified with this book. I shared many of Truly's experiences and believe that this book can make a significant difference in the lives of those interested in building a unique and successful company...More importantly, Truly's commitment to a set of value's is a wonderful model for those who want to know the characteristics of a process necessary to being a successful entrepreneur. This is a must read for those who say I wish I could start my own company...better than an advanced business degree.

Truly for ALL Young Men...and Women!! A MUST READ!

As a single mother, I feel this is a very inspiring narration on all the wonderful dreams of a wish for success come true. Through many escapades (and incredible hardships)Truly Nolan shows how an adventurous young man conquered his family restraints, major health issues, and used simple logic, persistance, and hard work to succeed! I would suggest all schools at the high school level make this part of their English and reading program. It is motivational in a fun and warm way. 'Truly Original' lives up to its name by showing how a young man uses his own ideas on how to build and grow a business that is incredibly successful. Truly still aims to please and help his employees while building his business...not pit them against each other to see if they can claw their way to the top. He goes all out to satisfy his customers even to his own expense if necessary. A wonderful warm hearted book.....much like a classic!!!

    What a Remarkable Man!

Truly Original is both a fascinating story as well as a real-live success story. The book is just a small example of what a 'truly' remarkable man he is, and I for one am proud to say... he is my Boss!

    Truly Inspirational

A living, breathing, successful entrepreneur. The book reads as if Truly Nolan is sitting in your living room-telling you what it takes to be successful. Turly Original is about a man who has a gift to recognize business opportunities and convert them into realty. A man who does not wait for opportunities to be handed to him or come his way. Rather Truly Nolan is a man who gets up each morning looking for new opportunities. A fast paced book filled with chapter after chapter of surprises. You finish one chapter wondering what possiblly could be next. Equally important as Truly's salesman skills are his strong ethical principles, coupled with the qualities of forgiveness and kindness. Truly is a man who would help anyone who asked him. Truly Nolan believes in the creative-anything is possible human spirit. The book brings you so close to Truly Nolan's spirit, you can't help smiling when you spot one of Truly Nolan's -mouse ears yellow bug automobile. You say to your self--I know and admire that man--Truly Nolan.
