Sad this kind of thing happens in real life. The story was sad and intense. It was also frustrating that the only therapy given at the end was retail therapy.

The characters are very realistic and very flawed. It does have a HEA ending, but keeps you guessing through the entire story.

Although very graphic this story had lots of depth. Truly a great read.

I liked this book a lot. The hard path of Mia's life is a perfect support to the extremity of her feelings of worthlessness. In spite of her self-esteem issues, she has a core-deep strength that was utterly believable to me. The scenes were graphic and well-written, brutal without being melodramatic, allowing the characters to do the best they can with the situation they've been given. This book is absolutely not for sensitive readers or victims of violence.

This dark erotic fiction is the story of a woman completely at the mercy and the whims of the men around her. Every aspect of Mia's life is controlled and dominated by fear, violence and pain, and she has learned to accept the pain and the abuse, adapting to an imposed life of sexual servitude. She has been trained to take it: "I craved the release of death, but I was too well trained to earn it." Even as damaged and beaten as she is, Mia isn't broken, yet, and she holds on to life only because she feels there is something she must do, something bigger and better than who and what she is.
This story is told in first-person from Mia's POV, and it reads as personal, raw and even heart-breaking. There are a lot of gripping scenes in this story, disturbing scenes such as forced oral, coercion and rape, torture, and humiliation (even a scene with urine), but most disturbing of all was the idea of this young woman's childhood. She was sexualized at a much too innocent and early age. From this abuse, Mia's life became a series of lonely, painful and twisted actions, one compounded by the other and none really at her instigation.
Darkly erotic and gritty, this story touches every shadowed place in a character's mind, every rough desire and every twisted part of a soul, but it also delivers touches of softness and sympathy. And at the end, there is even a feeling of redemption, that very idea of being more than a label, of being more than your past. The pay-off arrives, after all the suffering, and the reader feels as if she, too, has survived along with Mia, finding solace at long last. It takes a certain amount of skill on the author's part to deliver the reader through so much darkness and pain and into the arms of a tender resolution.
