    My new favorite book...

I have known of Jerry Bridges as an author for many years. I remember having a book of his during college (13+ years ago), but I never got around to reading it. I wish I had--although I don't think I would have resonated with it then, as a baby Christian. I didn't know then what I know now and I had a lot of things to learn.

This summer, I have made my way through Trusting God by Jerry Bridges. It is probably my most favorite book (non-fiction) right now. Trusting God has been updated this year and been published with a new cover (which I really like).

Trusting God delves into the sovereignty of God and how God is in control and why we can trust him, why we should trust him, and what that looks like. It sounds like it would be a very simple book--but it's not. It's filled with such truths that I will know I will be coming back to over and over. Honestly, I don't even feel that I can do it justice in this entry. It has so deeply encouraged me as we have walked through several trials this summer and as I've struggled.

I wish I could buy a copy for each one of my friends =) I love it that much, but sadly I can't. All I can do is share with you that it has been such a blessing to me and I hope that you will read it if you get a chance!

A must read for all - not just those dealing with painful situations.

This has been a life changing book for me and I have the opportunity to reccommend it again and again to people dealing with various situations. This book so clearly shows using scripture references throughout how much God loves us and is actively involved in every aspect of our lives. There is pain and suffering but His ways are not our ways - His purposes are so much bigger than us but He is there with us through it all. We have to just ask ourselves - Do we trust God or not...big question!

One of the best books I ever read

From its title, you wouldn¿t think this book is mainly about the sovereignty of God. But understanding God¿s sovereignty is truly the best way to handle hard times.

Bridges presents three reasons why we can trust God:

    1. God is omniscient, so He knows what is best for us.
    2. God is sovereign, so He is able to bring about what is best for us.
    3. God is love, so He wants us to have what is best for us.

Accepting these three truths provide a three-cord strand about God that one can and onto in hard times.

But the problem is, accepting the second reason is difficult for many. Our natural minds rebel against the idea of God being in control of events, including ¿bad¿ things that happen. But Bridges present many Scripture verses supporting the Biblical teaching of God¿s absolute sovereignty. In fact, this book was the source for many of the verses I reference in the chapter on ¿The Sovereignty of God¿ in my book Scripture Workbook: For Personal Bible Study and Teaching the Bible.

Bridge¿s book is one of the best books I have ever read. I would highly recommend it for the person going through hard times. There is no better way to deal with problems in life than by understanding that God is in control. For that matter, get it even if your life isn¿t currently ¿hurting.¿ Coming to understand God¿s absolute sovereignty will prepare you for when the inevitable hard times hit. And consult my book for even more Scriptural proof of God¿s sovereignty in all matters of life.

A 'Must Read' for all believers

I think this is a terrific book. The author is very easy to read and makes himself very clear in explaining why we can trust God in everything. I would recommend this book to all believers that want to have a better understanding of how faithful and trustworthy God is.
