Muhammad: a frank look at his influential (and violent) life and teachings
In The Truth about Muhammad, New York Times bestselling author and Islam expert Robert Spencer offers an honest and telling portrait of the founder of Islam-perhaps the first such portrait in half a century-unbounded by fear and political correctness, unflinching, and willing to face the hard facts about Muhammad's life that continue to affect our world today.

From Muhammad's first "revelation" from Allah (which filled him with terror that he was demonpossessed) to his deathbed (from which he called down curses upon Jews and Christians), it's all here-told with extensive documentation from the sources that Muslims themselves consider most reliable about Muhammad.

Spencer details Muhammad's development from a preacher of hellfire and damnation into a political and military leader who expanded his rule by force of arms, promising his warriors luridly physical delights in Paradise if they were killed in his cause. He explains how the Qur'an's teaching on warfare against unbelievers developed-with constant war to establish the hegemony of Islamic law as the last stage.

Spencer also gives the truth about Muhammad's convenient "revelations" justifying his own licentiousness; his joy in the brutal murders of his enemies; and above all, his clear marching orders to his followers to convert non-Muslims to Islam-or force them to live as inferiors under Islamic rule.

In The Truth about Muhammad, you'll learn

- The truth about Muhammad's multiple marriages (including one to a nine-year-old) - How Muhammad set legal standards that make it virtually impossible to prove rape in Islamic countries - How Muhammad's example justifies jihad and terrorism - The real "Satanic verses" incident (not the Salman Rushdie version) that remains a scandal to Muslims - How Muhammad's faulty knowledge of Judaism and Christianity has influenced Islamic theology--and colored Muslim relations with Jews and Christians to this day.

Recognizing the true nature of Islam, Spencer argues, is essential for judging the prospects for largescale Islamic reform, the effective prosecution of the War on Terror, the democracy project in Afghanistan and Iraq, and immigration and border control to protect the United States from terrorism.

All of which makes it crucial for every citizen (and policymaker) who loves freedom to read and ponder The Truth about Muhammad

It is funny that six of the reviewers who were Muslim hate this book, and they call it written by a hatemonger. The author is a renowned researcher of history who found discrepancies about what is now believed about Muhammed and the truth as written by early Muslim writings, and these people cannot handle it. One references and blames the Christians for the Crusades which were raised in order to allow Christians to visit their holy sites, which had been taken by sword of the Muslims. They killed you unless you became a muslim, and that is why all of N. Africa to Turkey is muslim when it used to be Christian. This book tells the truth which is needed for today. I'll file this anonymously, they may try to come and kill me.

While this book is not presented in an academic style, it never the less tells the truth of the Prophet. All things have their good and bad points and while the text focuses on the bad points of Muhammad, it is informative. If one wants to know the good points of Muhammad's character there are literally thousands of resources out there to peruse. If you wish to know the dark secrets that the Imam doesn't want you to know, then you will appreciate this book because it is one of the rare resources available to you.

You're a FOOL to suggest this is untrue! Wake up- it's all around you. We must already all bow down to the Muslims in the guise of political correctness! You're not even worth my time. Let me know once you've waken up!

    Very Difficult Reading

The flow of information in this book is very choppy, illogical and rambles on. The problem is for the lay person that doesn't know much about the Quran, it references it much like a biblical work and hastily jumps to conclusions. The author seems to want to do nothing more than BASH Muhammad.

Another Islamophobe profiting and preying on people's fears

Robert Spencer is just another Islamophobe, attempting to profit and prey on people's fears. If he has ever read the Old Testament, The New Testament and the Koran, once, he'd realize how ALL THREE monotheistic religions are EQUALLY Intolerant.

He is obviously out to make a buck off of the lives of our friends and families who lost loved ones after 9/11.

Skip this book, unless you are looking for bigotry and an excuse to hate others.

Spencer holds no punches. All rumors and myths are quickly swept away. No more net gossip to contend with. A well documented and extensively researched piece of work. Buy it, read it, pass it on!

.. may Allah forgive you ...!!!!

This book is equating Islam with Terror, and Jihad with War and a Muslim with Violence.
Indeed this is utterly WRONG.
For instance, JIHAD of a Muslim is to exert efforts, struggle and strive for the better.

{{The term 'Holy War' was actually introduced by the Crusaders for the control of the `Holy Land' (Jerusalem in particular), for political and reasons of expansionism}}

The term: `Greater JIHAD', while to nowadays' Western ears is equated with `slaughter'; in the Muslim parlance it actually means the struggle against one's soul. (Evil vs. Good.)

Muslim scholars explain (and teach) the meanings of JIHAD in reference to the following distinguished syllables.

Jihad to improve one's learning of science and philosophy to acquire additional knowledge to reason and rationalize one's daily actions and approaches.

Jihad in one's heart and Jihad of one's soul in order to quench the evil in one's mind through adherence to monotheism, (that there is but one God).

Jihad of the tongue, supportive of equanimity and struggle against the use of mean vocabulary, gutter writing, not even to induce someone to convert into one's faith by force or by the allure of money. Nor would one propagate military and political dogmas.

Jihad by means of the hand, meaning to use one's wealth for the good of the needy and the poor and to take care of the elderly parents.

Jihad through peaceful coexistence everywhere in the world.

Jihad by the sword refers to fighting for God's sake.

Islam condemns war.
Islam means `peace', Allah's peace with us and the peace of each one with one another.
Islam indoctrinates moderation and freedom from excesses.
A true Muslim is one who believes that once divinity of doctrine has been questioned there is no return to perfect faith.
The Prophet, even during his toughest encounters with the infidels never cracked under the uncertainties and emotions, or tormented by indecisiveness whenever a decision was required.

Perhaps the author should have also mentioned that Fatima, the only surviving child of Muhammad, was the wife of his first convert to Islam, Ali, the Prophet's cousin.
It is to be noted that the influence of Aisha, the young and favorite wife of Muhammad, a bitter enemy of Fatima and Ali, secured the election of her father, Abu Bakr as the Caliph of the Muslemeen. To Abu Bakr succeeded Omar bin-Abi Talib and to him Osman bin-Affan.

Asma bint-Marwan and Mary the Copt, were women adulterated by levity to cunning and cleverness. They used their ingratiating smiles and were given almost feline manners that captivated those who knew them. Asma (the Poetess) set herself to please heads of tribes while she inspired the Prophet's distrust at first sight. Each woman, when comes to discussing serious matters, leapt herself in favor by being at once obsequious and entertaining by funny stories and acts of buffoonery. Their misbehavior was indeed their faculty for making enemies with the Prophet who detested their language and sharp tongues.

I am Christian. I have Moslem friends, neighbors and relatives. They deserve all my respects and admiration. They are true Muslims, not Islamists as per the descriptions shown in this book.
Islam recognizes Christianity.
There is one full Sura in the Quran about Mary (the Mother of Christ) entitled Surat Merriam.
Saint Mary is the ONLY woman mentioned in the Quran.

An even better book to read is Walid Shoebat's "God's War on Terror".
Mr Shoebat is an ex muslim and as such he has an imperative insight of this evil religion.
If you take the Holy Scriptures and reverse them 180 degrees you get Islam.
What is good in the Bible is evil in the Koran, and what God has deemed evil is good according to Mohammed's interpretation of the Koran.
He is the one that muslims claim is the best to interpreter their evil book
Additionally, the name of Satan or Baal or any name that is used in the Bible ti identify Satan ALWAYS refers to the name "Son of the Morning Star”.
This is on of the manny names of Allah, thus the old testament has identified Satan and his messenger.
He is also named “The great deceiver”, which in modern terms means he claims to be a great liar, and so he is.
The father of lies the Word states.
The true messenger of God is his son, Yeshua (Jesus) and he is Gods equal.
No need for a messenger as God Himself came down to earth. We all know this as He has once revealed Himself to us and will do so again.
Please, read Mr Shoebat's excellent book "God's War on Terror" and the evil of islam will be revealed to you.
    God bless.

"The truth about Muhammad's multiple marriages (including one to a nine-year-old) - How Muhammad set legal standards that make it virtually impossible to prove rape in Islamic countries". In those days, it was part of the culture of Arabia to wed girls at an early age and as for Prophet Muhammad's marriages, his marriage consisted of two regular (love/arranged) marriages and the others were in order to protect widows and their children, whose husbands/fathers were killed. He didn't marry them for his "personal desires". And also, rape is not acceptable in Islam.
"How Muhammad's example justifies jihad and terrorism". First of all, Jihad means inner struggle, not "holy war" and terrorism". Jihad can be a struggle from controlling anger and desires. Islam DOES NOT promote violence. It actually does not value war or violence. And Islam was not "spread by the sword". It was spread by its motivation of peace and it was its peace, justice, and morals that made people to convert not the decision b/w life and death.
"The real "Satanic verses" incident (not the Salman Rushdie version) that remains a scandal to Muslims". Satan did not write the Qur'an. He is talked of so lowly in the Qur'an and inferior to God and humans. In fact, the verses of the Qur'an give methods to avoid Satan and not fall into his scheme of evil.
"How Muhammad's faulty knowledge of Judaism and Christianity has influenced Islamic theology--and colored Muslim relations with Jews and Christians to this day." Keep in mind that under the Byzantine and Persian rule, Jews and Christians were persecuted. It was under the Islamic rule that they were treated as equals. Look into the history of Spain. Moreover, Christians and Jews are the People of the Book, and are to be treated fairly.
To sum it up, none of the facts this book talks of are true. The father's of widows asked Muhammad to marry their daughters for protection, Women are not oppressed. Unlike Europe at the time, Islam was the first to grant women the right to inheritance, property, equal pay, voting, voice in marriage, etc, which was unknown to Europe and even today in Western societies. Islam does not promote violence and Jihad does not mean holy war. The Qur'an is written by the same God who had written the Bible and gave Moses the 10 commandments. Islam is religion of peace. I hope you keep in mind that the people, whether Muslim or not Muslim, who are spreading such falsehood are A) misguided or B) hypocritical to the teachings of Islam.

    What a shame

I am an Iranian who had been considering leaving the Islamic faith for quite a while. Unfortunately, this book exposed to me the hypocrisies and double standards of Islamophobes, and now I see all this hatred of Islam for what this is: a cultural war by far-right extremists who is not doing the planet any favor. This book is an insult to academic integrity, unbiased research, and rationalist thought. I was hoping for something to guide me during my period of doubting the faith I was "born" into

I have converted back to Islam after I started to research Islam from its academic sources.

    Unfortunate

I dont see why most books i try to search for Islam are written by hate-mongers. When i searched about Christianity a bunch of books written by Muslims hating on Christians were there!.. NOT Funny how spencer says Muhammad taught to destroy Christians when i dont see them writing trash like this. The book consists of narrow-minded babble, well that seems to sell nowadays unfortunatley. I couldnt even find this book interesting.

Mashallah (May Allah give him more). While the author bothered to provide some authentic terminology and an impressive chronological list of Prophet Muhammad’s life (peace be upon him) from the title and onwards this book is nothing but vicious slanderous misinformation.
Here’s one fact not promoted about Islam and Christianity and Judaism: the 10 Commandments sent to Moses, the authentic Gospel of Christ (not what is contained in the New Testament) and the Quaran all promote the same message to mankind from Allah (proper word for our Creator that is not female or male) to worship Him and Him alone as ONE. These revelations came to us chronologically. The Jews who listened to Christ’s message became Muslim, which means one submitted to Allah. Jesus prophesied the coming of another messenger/prophet and that was Muhammad, (for anyone who reads the Quran will find in it complete, peaceful, clean living without error and which hasn’t left out one element of how we should live in all aspects of life with one another and on this Earth). The Quaran (Allah says) those you will find closest to the Muslims, are the Christians. The Jews do not believe in Christ even as a prophet—Muslims do.
The scriptures in the Old and New Testament contain some truth and historical reality but much was tampered with; some is missing and that is why the Quranic revelation was sent—that’s why seminaries across the nation teach it as a piece of literature and admit it contains much contradicting information.
If you really want to understand the differences between Christianity and Islam—read The Cross and the Crescent by Jerald Dirks. He was a Christian minister who went to seminary. A very excellent book; one that if it had come out 10 years before 9/11, 9/11 might not have been successfully labeled as an act of Jihad for the Quran contains war ethics: no killing of innocent men, women or children who are non-combatants. Those who did 9/11 were not Muslim. Muslims don’t drink and party up in Las Vegas.
Islam is tolerant of much. The proof? That the entire world of Muslims have suffered tremendous onslaught yet continue to tolerate and be patient for we know Allah will intervene and justice will be dealt. I’m Muslim and American and proud to be. Islam is a great enemy to the bankers: the use of interest is prohibited in Islam.
