4 Stars So far I have really enjoyed this series. Truth and Consequences is a real good story. Lots of drama, action, romance and strong characters. It is also a clean read. David Evans is a former army medic. He has come to Arizona because he gave a friend who was dying his word that he would check on his sister. He wants to help others. He witnessed a crime and risked his life to save someone's life. Whitney Godwin is a rookie K-9 police officer. She has a baby Shelby. She feels she has to do extra as a good cop. She is determined to find out who killed her baby's father. David is on the train when he sees two drug dealers knife a man and pull a gun on him. The first cop to respond to his 911 call is Whitney. He waits to tell her that she is the reason he is in town. The drug dealers want to kill David and Whitney because they can idea them. The overall storyline of the series is That the manager of K-9 police training center is murdered. A benefactor is paying for all the recruits to stay in this small town for a year. They are to help where needed. There are two unsolved murders that are attached to the training center. Plus two other deaths of rookies that were ruled accidents. Some don't agree and think it is now 4 murders. I like how Lenora Worth writes and look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I was given this ebook to read for free from NetGalley and Harlequin. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Truth or Consequences.
Solid scene building and intricate yet subtle descriptions set the scene for this suspenseful novel. Worth draws readers into her tale, allowing them to experience it as her characters battle through the turmoil they find themselves in. The plot was enjoyable and solidly written. I enjoy how this novel can be read as a standalone but that there is also an overarching plot to the series as a whole. It’s the best of both worlds. The characters in this novel definitely made the tale for me. The subtle role reversal was fantastic. It added extra depth to the tale. At the same time, the hero was definitely still strong and borderline alpha. Also, the fact that their relationship is powerful yet far from easy was so real that I couldn’t help but get drawn into it. It didn’t hurt that I genuinely enjoyed the main characters as well. This was my first novel by this author but her writing has sparked my interest and I’ll definitely be looking for more in the future. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
A love story, that seems like kismet delivered by her late brother, in a midst of a small town crime spree, with all the odds against the rookies of the K-9 unit. I loved how Whitney and David got together, there's just something utterly beautiful, romantic, and serendipitous about how they met. And even though the connection between them is strong, the attraction is there, and they genuinely like each other, the road to be together isn't easy, automatic, or without obstacles. The faith both Whitney and David has in God, and the trust they have, for Him to guide them, in the moment of need and danger, is reassuring. Even though I think this book can be read as a stand alone, there's ongoing investigations of several crimes, that started in the previous book, book one of the series, and I believe will be going on until the end of the series. There's fast paced action, crimes committed, drug cartel on a loose, and lives are in danger, as David helps Whitney to solve the case. It was tense, chaotic, and fearful, since it seems both David and Whitney are targeted especially by the criminals. The crimes that started in this tale, are solved within the book, but the previously happened murders are still open cases. Interesting concept, and great cast of characters, with multiple authors, that are carrying the series, and doing a stellar job with it. The circumstances within the small town, the police station, the K-9 unit, and the rookies themselves, are all intriguing matters in the series, and holds the interest high, I can't wait for the next book in the series ~ Four Spoons
