Overview

“Suicide haunts you as something to hide, something to be ashamed of, something that keeps reminding you that your family is damaged, scarred . . . It's a dark, ugly secret that you don't want to share.”

From bestselling author and self-help guru Lucinda Bassett, comes an intimate and empowering memoir. A few years ago, Bassett's husband and business partner, David, committed suicide after an agonizing year's struggle with mental illness. Lucinda and her children were devastated. Unbelievably, within just a few months of his death, she lost her brother, and then her mother. And to add to the overwhelming anguish she was already experiencing, Lucinda was then forced to sell her business during an economic downturn. In this gripping account, Bassett digs deep inside herself to uncover the patterns of guilt, blame, anger, and shame she experienced throughout her life, and how they resurfaced and related to these horrific and painful recent tragedies. Her remarkable story is one of complete and candid intimacy, personal introspection, courage, pain, perseverance, and, ultimately, healing.

I could not put this book down. I was inspired from cover to cover. Lucinda Bassett has lead such a life and rose above difficulties. I am inspired and determined to do the same for my life. She is my V8 moment for my life. I recommend!

Having used a gift card to purchase Truth Be Told, and having lost a daughter to suicide (after her molest as a girl) I was greatly
disappointed with the structure of the memoir and the fact that the discussion of the suicide happened in only a couple of chapters in the end
I have many books on the topic of mental illness, and this one leaves much to be desired. If I'd browsed through it on a shelf I would not
have bought it. It treated more of the author than of the illness, truth be told.

If You Like Lucinda Bassett,You Must Read This Book.

This is a great book that reads very quickly. I'd rather not reveal too many of the stories details, suffice it to say, I cried more than once before I got to the last page. This is a very honest and emotional tale that REALLY proves the old adage, "Whatever doesn't kill you, can only make you stronger." I highly recommend this book.

Got an early copy of the book from a friend last week.  I had a difficult childhood growing up and my family was less than perfect.  I never spoke about my tragedy or pain or sought professional help.  I kept everything to myself and thought I looked fine, I was never truly happy or at peace on the inside.  I was hesitant to read this as I'm not much of a self-help book reader but I promised my friend so I gave it a shot...I'm insanely glad that I did.  I'm a huge cynic but I found myself sympathizing and understand Lucinda's pain and struggles.  They were moving, honest, real, and engaging.  More than anything, they gave me hope about coming out stronger.  I didn't know I was suffering as much as I was, until this book helped me realize the truth.  Then it helped me start to move past it.  Please give this a shot.  If you're skeptical, you won't be after.  And if you are, I hope you find help elsewhere.  But maybe, and I believe so, this book can help just about anybody.

Truth Be Told tells a powerful story of challenge and loss. The truth of the matter is that everyone goes through tragedies in their lives. Finding ways to overcome them is how we evolve. This book has been an inspiration to me and believe it will serve the same purpose to others.

I have been a fan of Lucinda's for over 10 years. Her Attacking Anxiety and Depression program saved my live. I am also an advocate of Lucinda's book The Solution, where she empowers you to go from re-active think to becoming a pro-active thinker. When I initially heard about the loss of her husband David I cried for her, knowing that she is a wonderful person who has helped so many people. I was curious to know the story behind the self-help guru Lucinda Bassett, so I ordered Truth Be Told from Barnes and Noble. Well, from the moment I picked up the book I could not put it down. Lucinda has such a beautiful story and I am so grateful that she was able to open up and share it with her fans that have been following her for years. I do not want to give away the story to those who have not yet had the opportunity to read it, but I will say this, get your tissues out and clear you schedule because you will not want to put this book down once you start reading.

I was previously unfamiliar with Luncinda Bassett and the wonderful work that she does helping others.  But after a friend recommended this book to me during a difficult time in my life, I am now a fan for life.  Her tragic and touching story kept me reading and feeling like here was someone who could really connect with those going through extreme grief.  She isn't some disconnected individual with a fancy title listing out steps to improving yourself (which is what I had always associated books of this nature to be).  Instead she is someone who has gone through the pain and suffering that many of us go through and need help with.  Truth Be Told was very inspirational and I can honestly say that it helped me get back to being me.  Thank you, Lucinda!
