Actively aspires to create “a more perfect union”;

Exhibits a form of politics that is professional and ethical;

Works towards a common purpose for all people;

Is just, fair, and truthful with its people;

Develops short-term change along with long-term plans for excellence;

Is united, strong, and enduring;

Has the people lead and leaders follow;

Has the people speak and the leaders listen;

Becomes stronger through its youth;

Ultimately leads the world through the 21st

About the Author

A landmark education report entitled A Nation at Risk was released in 1983 declaring America’s system of education so appalling that it was like an act of war posed against itself. This dire call to action was unfortunately ignored by America’s leaders and still awaits a national response, but inspired this author to personally accept the challenge of improving American schools as one ordinary individual out of an authentic sense of patriotism, and a genuine concern for the future of the country. Now almost thirty years later, this solitary quest to make a significant difference through education by working to fix the nation’s schools has culminated into this simple book of solutions.
Along the way on this decades long journey, this author has voraciously studied the issue of education from both inside and outside the classroom to understand what America needs to do to meet the contemporary challenges the nation faces, and have schools perform up to the requisite task of fueling America’s dominance as a leader in the world community. This ongoing exploration of education has included a return to college to become a certified teacher, numerous rebuffed attempts to implement school reforms, experimentation with technology in teaching, and years of prodigious study of the news about reforming American schools. This book represents a compilation of what has been learned through those experiences, and how this teacher believes America’s system of education can be remedied today despite repeated feeble attempts in the past that have defied change.
Unfortunately the news about education has not been good over the past three decades, and shamefully seems to have even gotten worse rather than better. As A Nation at Risk warned, America would eventually suffer from the inadequacies of its schools, including diminished prosperity and dysfunctional government, and today conditions in this country reflect what had been forecast about education in this groundbreaking report almost thirty-years ago. This nation has been educationally asleep for decades, assuming that America’s preeminent role in the world would never be challenged despite the ominous message that A Nation at Risk communicated to the country.
The lessons learned from these decades of study have been presented here in this book to create a political movement to finally and forever fix the nation’s failing system of education.
