This sizzling second in Jennings's explosive Sexual Education series (after Taint) asks the timeworn question: Is cheating with permission still cheating? High-powered Manhattan publicist Heidi DuCane has a deep hunger for rock star Ransom Reed, who just happens to be her new client. Her sainted husband, Tucker tells her to pursue the rocker; credible characterization makes Tucker's generosity and lack of jealousy feel entirely plausible. Whether one likes Heidi or not—because she's not sure she even likes herself—she does make a fascinating protagonist as she struggles with submissive sexual desires that Tucker either won't or can't satisfy. He loves her and doesn't want to cause her pain; Reed, on the other hand, is more than happy to give her what she wants. Hyper-steamy fun and mind games ensue until somebody falls in love. Then the story that has been building to a screaming crescendo gets thrown over in a genuinely surprising plot twist that will cinch the series' appeal for Jennings fans. (Nov.)

This sequel to Taint revolves around notoriously brusque sex guru Justice Drake's even more notorious publicist Heidi DuCane. Heidi's chaotic, demanding job leaves little time for work-life balance, and her lackluster sex life with husband Tucker is a prime example. While unstable rock star Ransom Reed might be a potential client thanks to a business favor, he is definitely one of the three men on Heidi's "exceptions list"—a group of men she has clearance to sleep with, with her husband's blessing. As soon as they meet, Heidi and Ransom feel an undeniable attraction, despite, or perhaps owing to, Tucker at her side. Things heat up at the after party, at which Heidi finds herself in Ransom's arms while her husband watches, her deepest, darkest fantasy made real. But this night of intimacy has long-term effects on her relationships with both men, as she battles the warm safety of her ten-year marriage with the undeniable thrill of forbidden passion. Headstrong, judgmental Heidi isn't exactly a likable character, but her hard demeanor is justified as part and parcel of a successful "fixer" of celebrity mishaps.
