The collaboration between director Jay Russell and composer William Ross, who worked together on My Dog Skip, continues with the screen adaptation of award-winning author Natalie Babbitt's Tuck Everlasting. Tuck tells the story of Winnie Foster Alexis Bledel, a teenager dominated by her mother Amy Irving who has a chance encounter with Jesse Tuck Jonathan Jackson while she's lost in the woods. The timelessness of the story is reflected in Ross's score, which utilizes styles and instruments from all over the world. "Main Title" establishes a mysterious mood as a string-dominated orchestra is joined by whistling and a gently cascading harp. Quickening tempos on guitar and fiddle make "Tuck's Place" infectiously merry. Meanwhile, "Kidnapping" introduces a pulse-racing passage with drums, gourds, and other indigenous instruments, only to subside into a melancholy, fiddle-dominated ending. Toward the score's end, the tempo soars and then concludes with a few light harp strokes. Ross delivers a wondrous score for this classic tale.

    Enchanting

Just like the movie itself, the Tuck Everlasting soundtrack is beautifully haunting, and enchantingly poignant. I especially enjoy how varied the songs are, yet they still ALL completely fit in the movie. Uplifting, yet heartbreaking, in my opinion, these songs are among the best Disney movie songs ever written. It's unfortunate they haven't gotten more recognition!
