Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Poor little Tucker—all he wants is to be dressed up in a scary costume this Halloween. His mistress, however, has other ideas. She has tried a variety of costumes that are quite nice and the pair has finally settled on one. However, when Tucker races to the door for the first trick-or-treaters, they remark on how cute he is. That is NOT what Tucker wants to hear. He has had it, and so Tucker comes up with his own costume and it works—he succeeds in being scary. It is with great pleasure that Tucker watches the next set of trick-or-treaters run away. It just goes to prove that "every dog has his day!" Now Tucker—like most kids who will relate to this story—dreams about his costume for next Halloween. The original picture book has been adapted for a DVD and kids can watch the story and also read the book. There is a page of stickers that kids can use, so this item is more of a personal purchase than one that would circulate. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

Tucker wants to look scary this Halloween and not cute like he was last year, dressed as a pumpkin. His owner tries several traditional costumes on the small canine, including dressing him as a hot dog, a bumblebee, and in a Hawaiian outfit complete with hula skirt and lei, but the dog is not happy with the image they project. He drapes himself in a white sheet for a spooky ghost costume but the sheet won't stay on. Finally deciding to be a mummy, he wraps himself in toilet paper, runs to the door where he scares off two trick-or-treating children, and is greatly satisfied. The energetic, bright-white pup stands out on each of the richly colored pages. This simple story will appeal to very young children just beginning to celebrate the day.
