Overview

Energetic Tucker is a tricky target for Cupid! But it’s easy to see that the little terrier loves, loves, LOVES his girl.

There are many things Tucker loves, like his dog food, his Frisbee, his spot on the couch, and bubbles from a jar. But today is Valentine’s Day, and Cupid is determined that this year Tucker will fall in love with another dog. Could Tucker’s dream pup be his playful friend Spunky or maybe Cupcake, who smells like roasted chicken? Tucker is one busy puppy, and somehow Cupid’s love arrows keep missing their mark. Will Tucker end up with the perfect Valentine after all?

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sheilah Egan
Sporting shiny, red foil hearts, the cover depicts a Dalmatian cupid and a small white dog. Tucker's owner tells him that Valentine's Day is "all about love." Tucker (the white dog wears blue collar and might be a West Highland Terrier) knows what he loves: dog food, Frisbees, naps, chasing bubbles, and his "stuffed piggy." Cupid (this puppy wears red shorts and has blue wings) also shows up on Valentine's Day, armed with arrows that will "make you fall in love." The simplistic cartoon drawings have bits of humor sprinkled throughout. We see a cardinal exclaim "Oh, Boy!" when the spotted, be-winged Cupid focuses on Tucker. Cupid's aim is off and he continually misses Tucker, even while he is playing with his neighbor, Cupcake. The squirrels laugh from their tree as Cupid misses Tucker yet again. Cupid is determined but Tucker escapes his every effort. Then Tucker's owner calls and he darts home to the arms of his real, true love—his girl. She gives him a special dog treat to celebrate their loving relationship. Cupid will just have to try something else next year. This board book will provide readers with a vehicle to discuss Valentine's Day with youngsters. Choose this one as a gift purchase or to add to the body of the Valentine's Day collection. I got this book for my son after we read Tucker's Thanksgiving book and he absolutely adores it. The story is simple, as are illustrations but it is the perfect length for my 18 month old. He often grabs this out of his book basket as a request to be read and will sit still in my lap as we read through it, sometimes several times in a row. I also catch him paging through it himself looking at the colorful pictures. We will be purchasing all the Tucker books now!
