In the aftermath of this appalling discovery, lives are lost, reputations are ruined, and Anne's own life is threatened. On the coast of California, Anne gathers, tumbles, and polishes beach rocks-one of her hobbies-and muses that, like the rocks crashing into each other in the tumbling drum, some people come out of the process of life's buffeting cracked open by hidden pressures. Others are chipped at the edges, leaving raw surfaces, and still others turn out as clear and lovely as gemstones. Along Anne's painful journey of discovery and healing-as she learns the stories of the damaged women and gains unexpected champions-she encounters all three kinds. Tumbling Stones is the compelling story of a woman who finds the strength to reclaim her life-and her self-worth-after a shattering betrayal. Meet the Author

Carol Clark Roberts, the daughter of missionary parents, spent her early and teenage years in a China occupied by Japanese troops during a brutal civil war and a Communist takeover. Forced to flee, Carol's family returned to the United States, where Carol attended college, married, and started a family. For fifteen years she wrote and photographed original filmstrip stories for schools and churches. Later she turned to writing novels, mostly inspired by her life in China and the research it required. Her first published novel, For the Love of China, came out of this effort. For decades she has been a collector and polisher of rocks from California beaches, an inspiration for Tumbling Stones. She is the mother of eight and the grandmother of fourteen. Carol currently lives in Santa Cruz, California.

Tumbling Stones by Carol Clark Roberts is a novel about the perfect family. Phil is a respected and well liked college professor; his wife Anne stays in their lovely home, taking care of her children and catering to her husband. Their perfect world comes crashing down when Anne receives a letter from a dear friend accusing Phil of adultery. Anne begins to see glaring flaws in her life that she had blissfully ignored for 20 years. She has to decide if she can stand on her own two feet, or if she’ll even be given a choice.

Tumbling Stones drew me in quickly and didn’t let me go! This book flowed so organically, the story was gripping, but all too real. It could be the secret life of anyone you know. I found myself emotionally involved with the characters. I despised Phil, I saw through all of his lies and fake smiles. My heart ached for Anne in the beginning, I wanted to give her advice and hold her hand. Then I wanted to shake her and ask her what she was thinking when she didn’t act the way I felt I would have. The way she grew and found her own feet was so familiar to me.

I feel like this book will speak to many women. Not just those that have been cheated on, but anyone who has found herself unhappily dependent on someone at any point in her life.

In this story of betrayal and heartbreak we are introduce to  the Rockford's a seemingly normal and loving couple but Phil has secrets that Anne soon learns about. Anne is a woman who seems to have it all a family, nice house and a loving husband who is a professor of romantic poetry however not everything is as it appears. Anne learns of her husbands infidelity and must soon make hard choices. With counseling to help Phil with his issues Anne soon learns things about herself including whether or not she can rebuild her life. This book has a few twist and turn that will surprise you as will the character of Anne.

I found the book to be enjoyable and was very interested in how it played out. If you like contemporary fiction and want a good book for the summer then this is your book. I really enjoyed it and am glad i read it.
