More About This Book

Overview

In TURNED (Book #1 of the Vampire Journals series), eighteen year old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. The one ray of light in her new surroundings is Jonah, a new classmate who takes an instant liking to her.

But before their romance can blossom, Caitlin suddenly finds herself changing. She is overcome by a superhuman strength, a sensitivity to light, a desire to feed--by feelings she does not understand. She seeks answers to what's happening to her, and her cravings lead her to the wrong place at the wrong time. Her eyes are opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City. She finds herself caught between two dangerous covens, right in the middle of a vampire war.

It is at this moment that Caitlin meets Caleb, a mysterious and powerful vampire who rescues her from the dark forces. He needs her to help lead him to the legendary lost artifact. And she needs him for answers, and for protection. Together, they will need to answer one crucial question: who was her real father?

But Caitlin finds herself caught between two men as something else arises between them: a forbidden love. A love between the races that will risk both of their lives, and will force them to decide whether to risk it all for each other...

This is Book #1 in the Vampire Journals series. Book #2 (LOVED) is also available, at 51,000 words.

    Save your money and time!!

I decided to try it based on a few reviews and the low price, what a mistake! I only got a few chapters into it and could not go any further. The writing is horrible, who ever did the edits ( if such a person exists) made so many mistakes that i felt like I was reading a kids paper for school. There was so little creativity that the best she could do was repeat analogies of how she felt or what she observed over and over in each paragraph, and some of them would contradict what she just wrote. You know where the story is going there is no surprise. I felt like I was stuck watching one of those cheesy movies that come on at two in the morning. My advice SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! It's not worth it unless you are a ten year old with nothing better to do. YOU BUY CHEAP YOU GET CHEAP!!

    Disappointing

Based on other ratings I thought this would be another good read...I was wrong. I honestly hated the main character Caitlin. She always seemed to just be a bystander and was constantly clueless. There's no depth to any of the characters really and the story ended when the plot finally picked up any pace.

    Tense, Scary and Romantic

After reading the first page I couldn't put this book down. It is scary, thrilling and romantic. A very original vampire book. I am a big fan of TWILIGHT. Now, I am even a bigger fan of TURNED. I am sharing it with all my friends.

    Uh...what?

This book seemed really short, and it should have been shorter, the editing is horrid, I didn't even understand what was happening some of the time. How this even got published is my question? "She ran only to see a wall, a wall on all sides, she searched for a way out but there was only a wall, a stone wall in all directions.." Yeah so you are saying there was a wall right? The descriptions of every place the character went was exactly the same, stone steps, columns, high ceilings, vampires or people or vampires.. Oh oh, a vampire in mid flight wraps his wings around her.. Uhh what? I felt like I was reading a children's creative writing assignment.

    Hmm.

Shoddy character development, very short book. Rapid paced storyline, too rapid. Author didn't give you a chance to sink in. Not horrible but not great.

    more from this reviewer

    Nothing to talk about

Barely touched on characters, extremely bad vocabulary, not much excitement, and not proof reading what you publish makes for a bad book as this one turned out to be. Sorry, but even for 99 cents.......... Well it just wasn't worth 99 cents. There are so many vocabulary and writing mistakes in Turned that I wonder how this book even got published. 1 star for me.

    should be free!

The characters seemed underdeveloped. Overall, decent storyline, but it needed more detail. I finished the story not really caring about the characters.

    Ive never...

I never written a bad review for a book, but this one didnt seem good to me. Turned by Morgan Rice would be a good book if she would simply slow down the plot, given the readers more insight on the characters, and have been more organized when talking about things in her book. The story is basically about a girl who doesn't understand whats becoming of her, after moving to New York City and discovering herself. THere is romance, but I thought it was a bit unrealistic. This story would be for people haven't yet read vampire stories and would like to start small. But if you've read quite a few books with vampires in it. Then it isn't right for you. I will not be reading anymore books from this author sadly.

    Awesome!

I love this book. It reminds me a bit of works by Amanda Hocking and Richelle Mead, but it's very different. It's faster paced and more action packed. I love the cool settings, and how the author handles all the different types of vampires in the book. I also love the romance, and the characters--especially the main character, Caitlin. She's tough, and a great heroine. This is such a fast read. I definitely recommend it!

    poorly written

the storyline was ambitious, but the whole book felt rushed, you didn't have time to connect with any of the characters. Also, the title doesn't make sense, since she was born that way, not turned.

    I Want To Read More

First off, I love this cover. The darkness and fierceness of it is pretty awesome in my opinion. It's what made me decide to go ahead and start reading this book, even though I had prior commitments. Sorry ya'll, but I was drawn to this. =)

The title insinuates that someone in the story is going to be turned into a full-fledged vampire. And, someone did, but not the someone I was expecting. That sort of disappointed me, but there's always the sequel(s). =)

As for the remainder of the story ... there were parts that were Twilight-esque ... Two boys having feelings for the same girl ... Said girl feeling awkward and unsure of herself and her feelings .... Sound familiar? I figured they would, but I believe it sounds familiar because these are classic elements of many teen/YA novels (like this one is). I think people only compare these types of situations with Twilight because Twilight skyrocketed into a phenomenon so fast.

Overall, this book really is an interesting and fast read. I thought it a pretty good beginning to a new series of books. There were quite a few story developments that weren't really completed in this book. I'm sure this was done to draw the reader in and make them want more when the story ends. Well, congratulations Ms. Rice, you have succeeded ... I want to read more.

    The Best Vampire Book

This was tense and thrilling! Very enjoyable. Can't believe it only cost .99 cents. Very scary and gripping. Couldn't have asked for more. Would have pulled an all nighter to finish it. Can't wait to read more from Morgan Rice. Hope a sequel comes out soon.
