Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Sea turtles are amazing creatures—graceful in the water as they glide along but clumsy on land where they come to lay their eggs. This story opens with a green turtle laying her eggs, which hatch after incubating about two months. Then it is a mad scramble to the sea and sadly only a few of the babies will make it. They are prey for other creatures. Huelin describes some of the general characteristics of sea and land turtles—what they eat, how they protect themselves and also mentions that turtles can be pets. Readers also learn that some turtles live to be 30 or 40 years old and the Galapagos tortoises can reach 70 or 80 years in age. An entry in the "All Aboard Science Reader" series—Station Stop 1. 2003, Grosset & Dunlap/Penguin Putnam Books for Young Readers, Ages 4 to 7.
