Children's LiteratureYoung children are often drawn to animals and seek as much information as they can about their favorites. Even toddlers can become enamored with all types of animals and how very different they are. Turtles, part of the "All about Pets" series that discusses the very basics of many types of animals, including birds, cats, dogs, horses and snakes, to name a few, is a good place for animal lovers to begin who are too young to be overloaded with information. Each book is approximately 20 pages long and consists of single sentences accompanied by a descriptive picture that goes along with each fact. The photographs are simple, yet colorful, and the words are simple enough for a toddler to understand and an early reader to read herself. While Turtles doesn't offer extensive detail, as many other pet books might, it does describe typical characteristics of turtles, what they need for their basic care, and what they look and feel like. The back of the book also offers additional resources, both on the Internet and at the library, as well as a basic glossary. A fine book for toddlers or very early readers.
