Children's LiteratureDid you know that the largest turtle in the world weighs more than two horses? This book is filled with curiosities about turtles and some lovely photographs of this gentle creature. It also gives a new way of looking at the tortoise and the hare fable. On land, the tortoise would probably take an hour to travel two blocks. Yet in the ocean, the sea turtle swims as fast as the hare runs on dry land. The author also notes that present day turtles have changed very little from the ancient fossilized turtles that lived with the dinosaurs. Interesting facts about turtle habits, their shells, habitats, life span, diet, sicknesses, and communication are generously sprinkled throughout the text for the curious mind. This book is part of the "Perfect Pets" series and contains a glossary and a reading list (with Internet addresses, too).
