Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Della A. Yannuzzi
This short paperback in the "Beast Quest" fantasy series is filled with lots of creatures and dangerous scenarios with a hero and heroine in the middle of it all. Young Tom is on his latest quest in the Dark Realm forests with his partner Elenna to rescue a good beast, Ferno the Fire Dragon, who is entangled in a long snake fern's grasp. The tentacles are so strong that Tom is unable to quickly slash them away. Echoes of Ferno's call for help ring in his ears along with a thundering sound coming through the forest. Tom throws Elenna his sword, promises to return, and hurries off to the weakened sounds of Ferno. As he tries to untangle Ferno, the loud thundering grows louder until a Mighty Mammoth comes rushing toward them. He struggles with the Mammoth, trying to keep her away from Ferno, but without his sword, he can't do much. Storm, Tom's horse tries to help and manages to chase Tusk away. Elenna is calling to him now and Tom hurries back to her, unable to free Ferno, and wondering if he can help Elenna before the Mammoth finds them again. Elenna has managed to cut away most of the fern's hold, and throws her sword to Tom just in time to lash out at Tusk. All eventually ends well for this quest as Ferno and Elenna are saved, and Tom and Elenna have slain the Mighty Mammoth. Black and white drawings accompany the text. Older readers will enjoy this fast-moving adventure tale and look forward to other books in the series. Reviewer: Della A. Yannuzzi

Meet the Author

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father's paintings of historic English battles which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father's office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Ice Dragon or Ghost Panther. But he really wishes he did!
