    Fabulous photography of Tutankhamun treasures

Even though the tomb of Tutankhamun had been broken into before its opening by Carter and Canarvan in 1922, many beautiful items remained. Quantities of jewelry and other funerary items are shown for us to see and speculate about. The photography in this book is stunning, allowing the reader to examine things in great detail. Many of the pieces are shown in close-up view, as well as showing how the item appears in entirety. It is fascinating to see the workmanship of the ancient Egyuptians of 3,000 years ago.
The size of the font used for the text is very small, I assume to save space and reduce the number of pages necessary - the captions and descriptions are extensive. This still is a book I will read many times.

    Tut Stuff

All familiar stuff. Attractively presented, if in paperback, and very cheap.

    Beyond Expectations

I am absolutely blown away by this book. I have never seen Tutankhamun's treasures shown with such splendor. The pictures are more than just pictures; they come off of the page and make you a part of them. This is the book that will make the person who has only a passing interest in Egypt an addict. Brilliantly done. I am going to the exhibit in the US this year, and I honestly don't think that it will do the treasures as much justice as this book does.

    great pictures, poor history

If my rating depended exclusively on the pictures, I´d have to give the book a 10 star evaluation. Nevertheless, there is little info on king Tut´s life or historical events regarding the 18th dinasty. Furthermore, there is no picture of his mummy and only a few pics of Carter´s discovery in 1922. Besides that, the book is awesome.

    Awe Inspiring

I have not seen this book. However, I had B&N send it to my 83 year-old mother and I am writing this review for her. She was overwhelmed by it. She has been an enthusiastic bibliophile all her life, collects books by the thousands and is a lover of all things Egyptian. Our family took her to Chicago to see the King Tut exhibit years ago and it is one of her fondest memories. She was all set to visit Egypt once since then, but the tour was cancelled because of political unrest. She will probably never be able to go now because of health problems. She says: 'This is the most magnificent, awe-inspiring book I have EVER seen. I had to put it down and take a timeout half-way through because of the overwhelming effect it was having on me. In some ways it's even better than the live exhibit because there we were separated from the treasures by distance and glass. The book brings you nose-to-nose with all of them. It hit me in the bread basket!' Thank you B&N for making such a wonderful book accessible to my pocketbook and for providing my mother with a lifetime treasure.

    Incredibly Beautiful

When I first saw this book in a local Barnes & Noble, I knew I had to have it. This is a HUGE book, and is absolutely of first-rate quality. The photographs are gorgeous and enormous, letting you see all the artifacts in all their splendor. The text is well-written and interesting. I missed the exhibit of Tut's treasures, but having this book may be even better! You get to see ALL the artifacts in exquisite detail, and you get expert commentary from TGH James. A one-two punch that just can't be beat!
