Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Children's Literature
Tutter is off to spend a day with Grandma Flutter and it appears that he has packed up everything but the kitchen sink for this short outing. Bear helps him lighten his load and also offers reassurances to Tutter that, while the world is a very big place, lots of fun and adventures await. Bear then presents him with a tiny camera to record his adventures. After Tutter leaves, all his friends miss him and decide to prepare a welcome home banner. When Tutter returns, he shares his photographs and even has presents for his friends. While there are some very positive messages here, encouraging kids to step out and sample the world, the situation as depicted seems a bit unrealistic. Since Tutter was only gone for an afternoon, where and how did he get the photographs in such a short period of time? It might have been more believable if Tutter was going away for a couple of days. Based on the television program Bear in the Big Blue House. 2000, Simon Spotlight, Ages 3 to 5, $6.99. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
