Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
My Little Ponies are off to a dance school. Just like the young girls who read these books and who would also like to be or are studying ballet, the ponies learn about the necessary accoutrements. Dancers wear tutus, ballet slippers, and ribbons (most also wear leotards, but that is not mentioned). There is an opening vocabulary page—words and the related symbols or pictures which will help those just getting started enjoy this rebus reader. All the ponies seem to be enjoying dance class except for Pinkie Pie who is afraid to leap. Her pals offer encouragement and she finally masters the step. The real story here is the value of friendship and support, be it in dance school or in any facet of life. An "I Can Read!" book, Level 1 which stresses simple sentences for eager new readers. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
