Overview

"Share the joy of Christmas as only you can. Record a Story: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas allows family and friends to read this traditional Christmas story to children even when they can't be there in person. Grandparents, friends, and other special people in a child's life have the opportunity to share a personal moment across the miles. The personalized voice recording will be saved in these pages so your child can enjoy this book year after year.

Children will delight in the sound of a loved one's voice when they open this book. A recordable dedication page lets them know this is a story just for them. Each time they turn the page, Christmas music plays, and they hear the familiar voice of a loved one reading the classic holiday story.

Record a Story: 'Twas the Night Before is easy to set up. Follow these directions:
• Turn to the page you wish to record.
• Press the RECORD button. Listen to the instructions. When you hear a beeping sound, read the words on the page.
• After you are finished reading the page, press STOP. You can re-record until you are satisfied with your recording. Repeat the process with the remaining pages of the book.
• Set the locking switch behind the screw-on plate to ensure that your recording won't be inadvertently erased. Your voice recording is permanent; it will not be lost when the book's batteries are changed. Three replaceable AAA batteries come with the book.

This recordable storybook was designed for children of ages. It is a wonderful gift idea for out-of-town relatives, a parent who is away from home frequently, or someone in the military assigned to a faraway land.

I bought this book for my 3 year old granddaughter as a Christmas present. After trying for three hours to record the book I gave up. I returned it to Barnes and Noble for another copy. Unfortunately I had the same problems with the second book, as well as with a third copy. I also bought one of their other titles, "How Much I Miss You" and had the same problems. I sent an email to the publisher at the customer service address in the front of the book. Not surprisingly, the email was returned undeliverable. This book, as well as the other title, is a piece of junk. Avoid at all costs. Barnes and Noble should do their customers a favor and remove these books from their shelves immmediately.

I bought this book as a christmas present for my 3yr old daughter. After recieving it I followed the instructions to start recording, and it would skip over a page. The book is verrryy finiky you have to hold it in the exact right way or it will not work right. Even so I still have one page that will not even pick up no matter how you hold it! Save your money!

It took me 4 hrs. to record two books. Had to keep re-doing. It skips pages. This book will be very difficult for a child to use alone. No one has mentioned that this book is light sensitive. You have to have a very bright light on over the book in order for it to play. I discovered this after recording it and walked away with the book to show my husband, the book would not play. When I returned to the area with the light, it played. The light has to be directly over the little wholes on the pages for it to work properly. If a child puts his hand over the wholes on the pages, it will not work. Much to sensitive for a child to operate. This book should have been marked: Light sensitive and Not a childs book. I bought three for my little granddaughters and now I have to tell their mothers that they will need adult supervision to operate. TO BAD, it was a nice idea if the manufacture would have tested it and corrected the problems.

My wife recorded successfully. However, the playback is quirky. Depending upon how a child is holding the book, where his hands are, how the pages are positioned, certain pages may or may not play. We are taking it back. The idea is good, but, they used poor technology in the implementation. While you can go through certain acrobatics to get every page to play, the idea is to create a book that little children can listen to on their own without being instructed how to hold the book. Clearly there was no quality control testing done on this product. You would have more success purchasing a book, buying a cheap tape recorder and audio tape and sending it to your child. Very unfortunate that this product hit the market.

My 81-year-old grandma bought this book to send to her great granddaughter. It was really easy to record--most of the pages only took one take. Just make sure that you record in a completely silent room or there will be too much background noise. My only complaint is that her voice played back a bit deeper than it really is, so it wasn't a perfect recording. Still, this is a cool book that will make a great gift.

We must have made a dozen recordings. It would play the same page twice and erase the previous page. I exchanged the book and the second one was worse than the first. All but one page was correct, than the thing when back to original and erased everything. We tried once more, we send it to the grandkids with one page missing. Lord knows what it will sound like when they open it christmas. It was a great idea but poor quality.

I must have tried a dozen times to record the story with the right pages, but every time I tried, it kept missing pages that were recorded. It was like it skipped, and no amount of times I tried would it record correctly! This book is definitely going back!

Purchased two of these books one for me and one for a friend. I had to return mine because of terrible static in recording, not a problem with the next except the same issues as others with the recording not playing in the correct order and repeating tha same over and over. My friend had the same issues. Shame on the Publisher and shame on Barnes and Noble for carrying such defective merchandise. This is a definite scar on their reputation as far as I'm concerned.

I bought two of these books for my grandsons. I was not able to give them to them because the same page in both books would not record. I was very disappointed, because I thought they would be an excellent gift for the boys.

VERY DISAPPOINTED…. Ordered a recordable ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas book. Received the shipping confirmation. Never received the book. Emailed to get status and they shipped out another one. Received it, but it was damaged (binding was sliced on front and back). I did NOT return it because the book was for my husband in Afghanistan. He can’t be with us for the holidays so was going to record that for our kids and send it back. So the cosmetic damage wasn’t an issue (frustrating, yes, but more important to get it to him overseas). He received it, tried to record in it and it did NOT WORK. When he finally got to the 2nd to last page of recording.. the book recorded the last page at the same time.. so we didn’t get the end of the story. The last two pages say the same thing. He kept trying and re recording. It just wouldn’t work. During the whole book it kept stopping and playing the music sound in the middle of him talking. Very frustrating! We called customer service. Extremely un-willing to help. Very clear that they did not care about the situation and we were place on hold for a supervisor for 45 minutes the first time and 18 minutes the second time. We timed the calls. So, we are left with a broken book that doesn’t work and we won’t have it now for the kids from dad in Afghanistan… WORST customer service I have experienced in a long time. Will NOT be purchasing from them again.

Please do not order this or any of the other record a stories books. I realize these are cheaper, but that does not mean it should not work properly! It might not be as well made as the more expensive ones, although it seems to be made pretty good and it looks really nice, illustrations and all, but it has issues with the right page reading, even when it is just the default recording. I have always loved barnes and noble, but this was a Christmas gift for my grandchildren and I am extremely disappointed!!! I read the reviews, but I figure you can get lemons in anything, cause my sister purchased this and it worked just fine, but it seems there are more lemons than good, cause all 3 of my record a stories have the same problem.

This book was a gift from a bookstore to Soldiers deployed to Afghanistan so they could send home a "special gift" for Christmas. My exeprience appears to be unusual compared to the other reviews. I recorded the book in one take and had no problems with the pages reading back correctly. I recorded my voice while holding the book similar to reading. In the center of the book, there are optic sensors that let the recorder "know what page it is on". I could see if a sensor is covered up, the book would easily read the wrong page. However, I did not have a problem with my desk side lamp. My daughter receieved the book the other day and based on Facebook comments, I hit a grand slam. My only suggestion is to read the instructions how to record before begining. From start to finish, I was done in less than 30 minutes. Most of that time was me double checking my work.

I bought two of these books for my 4 grandkids; 2 in Canada and 2 in Minnesota. After working for 3 hours to get the first one done, I gave up. I had the same problem with the other book also. Unfortunately, I had to send them off with the recordings skipping the second to the last page in both books. What a joke!! The grandkids like them regardless because they are young and don't read yet but if they could read they would understand that it isn't working.

Barnes & Noble shipped it quickly, and it was a beautiful book, but it is too quirky. You must hold it flat and still and even then it doesn't always play the correct page. It would have been a gift for a child, so that wasn't acceptable. I returned it. I have to say, Barnes & Noble was awesome when I brought the book into the store to return even though I purchased it on-line. Full refund, no hassles. So on that note, you could try your luck and see if the book works better for you.
