Engaging souls through humor
Author Mark Hart writes that his approach to evangelization is based on the work of Venerable Fulton Sheen, an immensely popular radio and TV personality of the 1950s. Hart explains that Msgr. Sheen saw humor as “a tactical weapon used to engage souls chained in sin and minds trapped in darkness.”
In Tweet Inspiration, Hart brings the humor/evangelization combination into the twenty-first century via Twitter, which he sees as an opportunity to “fulfill Christ’s charge to carry the Gospel to the ends of the earth.” The little book (roughly 6 by 7 inches) consists of 107 pages of tweets, mostly from Hart. The average page contains four tweets, separated by hash tag signs. Occasionally Hart has inserted an expanded message, set in italics, to flesh out an idea using more than the 140-character Twitter limit. His major themes are God’s love, marriage and family (some very cute kid stories), modern culture, sin, and prayer. Throughout, Hart remains true to his word, using humor often to make his point or prompt reflection.
The content of Tweet Inspiration is well-suited to teens and young adults and those who minister to them.
