Overview

As a teenage vampire, Vlad has spent the last four years trying to handle the pressures of school while sidestepping a slayer out for his blood. Now he's a senior, and in this final, action-packed book in the series, Vlad must confront the secrets of the past, unravel the mystery of who he really is, make decisions about his future, and face his greatest enemy. It's a senior year that totally bites.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As "The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod" comes to an end, Twelfth Grade Kills returns readers to Vlad's story just as he is seeing a vision of his father while fighting the Slayer Joss. Temporarily distracted by the vision, he is able to get his anger under control. Vlad escapes one fight, just in time to find another waiting for him at home; he is to stand trial and be executed for his father's crimes. Vlad reveals the vision of his father and is given until the end of the year to find his father or die for his crimes. When Tomas, Vlad's father, finally reveals himself to Vlad he has mixed emotions—anger for abandonment, relief that he is not crazy, and excitement that he has his father back after eight years of mourning him. Vlad has only a few months to figure out how to save his own life or come to terms with the fact that he must die to save the ones he loves. Everything comes to an emotional and heated end when Vlad learns about his father's intentions. Twelfth Grade Kills is a thrilling and dramatic story that will keep readers guessing until the end whether or not Vlad will save the day and send them racing to the finish to find out. Brewer has written a satisfying conclusion to the series and extols the importance of family and love. Reviewer: Kirsten Shaw
School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up—Vampire Vladimir Tod has more issues to deal with than the usual high school student looking forward to graduation in the fifth and final episode (Dutton, 2010) in the series by Heather Brewer. He has a death sentence to contend with—two, actually. One is sought by the Elysian Council and the other by the Slayer Society. And then there's the issue of his dead father being alive and full of secrets that will change the way Vlad sees everyone around him. Kevin Pariseau's vocal ranges perfectly match the personalities of the characters. With changes in pacing, accents, and vocal depth, Pariseau will have listeners feeling as if they are fighting alongside Tod to find the answers he needs to save his life and the lives of everyone he loves. All of this is done while still balancing a resonance true to typical teen angst and building steady suspense. Those who have a familiarity with the previous titles will be better able to understand the events transpiring here. A definite purchase for collections where the series is popular.—Stephanie A. Squicciarini, Fairport Public Library, NY

Meet the Author

Heather Brewer
Heather Brewer

Heather Brewer was not your typical teen growing up. She wore black, danced under full moons, and devoured every book in sight. She hasn't changed much. Today, Heather can be found writing in her funky, black Happy Bunny jammie pants, dancing under a full moon, devouring every book in sight, and attending renaissance faire in full costume (and in character).

When Heather's not writing, dressing up, dancing and reading, she's answering email, which she loves to get over at her website.

    Couldn't Put it Down

Very dramatic with multiple twists and turns, not forgeting the humor, this is a tale of epic proportions of action, comedy and a pinch of romance. The Vladmir Tod series is clearly a favorite of mine and should be yours too.

Read It but worse of all the books

heather brewer is crazy i think she thinks she is J.K. Rowling cause only J.K. Rowling can kill a load of main characters and get way with it.

i hate to say this but this book is crap, i love the story don't get? my wrong ive been following it since 8th grade bites came out but she couldn't have wrote a worser ending. NEVER MIND I TAKE THAT BACK SHE COULD!

the book was great in the beginning, then everything started happening and in a matter of a few chapters the book was over with

Great end to one of my favorite series.

Note: The barnes and noble, amazon, and scholastic catalogs are all wrong. This book is not 224 pages, but about 390 pages. Big mixup.

I have to say, like in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and in Mockingjay, my favorite characters died. (I won't say which)It's like authors think the only way they can end a series good is with so much DEATH. That aside, i noticed that Vlad realized a lot of things about himself that he has been pondering through the other books. And something happens that changes the series completely. Great book four and a half stars.

    School Year Plot Lines

I really enjoyed the entire series and this book wasn't a disappointment. My only real issue is this series runs on school year calendars - Something dramatic happens at the beginning of the school year, then somewhere around Christmas break something else happens and then the bad guys disappear for a few months and the climax happens at the end of school. Just doesn't seem realistic. But I have that issue with Harry Potter and other series. I really liked the story though and Vlad was cool.
