Overview

Continuing a long-running bibliographic series, which is cited in Books for College Libraries, 3d ed., this first volume of TCSSE for the 21st century updates the reference through 1998. Here is where to find indexing to interpretive material pertaining to short stories; no matter what language the stories were originally composed in, the cited interpretive material includes books and periodical articles written in English and in the major Western European languages. Arrangement is alphabetical by short story author; thus it's evident that while scholars continue to study the works of Melville, Welty, and Poe, they are also devoting attention to new writers, and new attention to writers from many countries and cultures. Of the 887 authors cited in this volume, 268 appear in the series for the first time. Editor Aycock (English, Texas Tech University) worked closely with former editor Warren S. Walker, also of Texas Tech to maintain the high standards of previous volumes. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
