Overview

Sugarland is a shot at the big-time for a trio of singer/songwriters who have languished on the outskirts of country and folk for the better part of a decade. Kristen Hall had a career of her own as a recording artist, Kristian Bush was in Billy Pilgrim, and Jennifer Nettles is the new discovery, previously fronting Soul Miner's Daughter, who never had recorded. With her powerful, soulful voice sounding a bit like a mainstream, country-oriented Shelby Lynne, Nettles is the frontwoman in Sugarland, and she gives the trio sex and commercial appeal, turning the professionally crafted songs on the group's debut, Twice the Speed of Life, into something that's charmingly mainstream. Hall may have been stuck playing in the folk circuit and Bush may have had little more than a cult following, but both have considerable skills as writers, crafting sturdy, melodic songs reminiscent of a streamlined, pop-ready, less quirky Dixie Chicks. If there's any flaw with Twice the Speed of Life, it's that it plays it a little too safe, fitting too comfortably into the confines of contemporary country radio, but it does its job so well, it's hard to complain. Besides, once Sugarland finds an audience with this debut, the group will be able to stretch out on the second record. Based on how solid Twice the Speed of Life is, they'll likely find fans who will be eager to hear how they grow.

Everyone lives a slice of life, She sings it. Like Jennifer Nettles was talking to me sometimes, telling me she knows what it's like:)

Sugarland is the best thing to happen to Nashville in a long, long time. Every song on this album has top-10 single potential. The songwriting is amazing, the vocals are amazing, the harmonies are amazing, the musicianship is amazing. In short, BUY THIS RECORD. It will be the best 12 bucks you've spent on music in a long, long, time.

I went out the other day and purchased a copy of the new group Sugarland, they totally blow me away with there songs, they are so fresh and different from anything that is playing on country radio right now. There vocal harmonys together are also a perfect blend of country, and a little bit of Bluegrass, and all around a fantastic debut album, if you have not heard of them yet, go to your local record store, to the country music section and pick yourself up a copy, because I think they are going to be the next big thing going.

If you are a country lover, you will like this album. If you're not a country lover, you'll like this album. Although the vocals have a bit of a country twang, the overall sound is more folk-like to me. In today's music world, it's nice to see groups that write their own music as well as perform it. I have a real appreciation for groups that write their own lyrics. And as for the lyrics on this album, it's not a bunch of repetitive lines...it's storytelling from the heart. I highly recommend this album for anyone who loves good music.

I bought this album on a visit from the UK to the USA and think it is brillient. On my next visit tried to find a 2nd album to purchase by Suglarland and have been looking on line regularly ever since but unfortunately to no avail. Is there to be a follow up album?Look forward to hearing more from Sugarland.
