Overview

New territory brings new troubles for the fierce cats of the warrior Clans, who are still uncovering the secrets of their new home around the lake. Dangers they have never faced before are lurking in the twilight shadows, and former allies are acting strangely hostile.

As divisions between the Clans grow deeper, Firestar's daughters face troubling decisions. One is torn between loyalty to her calling and a forbidden love, while the other struggles with her best friend's betrayal and the surprising perils of the forest. The choices they make now could affect ThunderClan for generations to come...and with an unexpected enemy preparing to attack, their courage and strength will be needed more than ever if the Clan is to survive.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Warrior Clans now stride in new territory, but their new lakeside home has not enhanced their security. As the skies darken, new threats lurk in the shadows, and even trusted former allies have begun to act suspiciously. Firestar's daughters face momentous personal decisions; but in the midst of this gathering frenzy, even these problems seem almost paltry. An eventful installment to the Warriors: The New Prophecy series.
Children's Literature
Firestar. Dustpelt. Squirrelflight. Brambleclaw. These are four of the more than fifty feline characters in the sixth title from the series "Warriors: The New Prophecy." One has to love both cats and fantasy to enjoy this sequel. Not only that, but starting with the sixth book without knowing all the characters makes the story nearly impossible to follow. Because of the many characters, readers may have to consult the list at the beginning of the book, which is longer than a Shakespeare play. Nevertheless, life is never dull for the clans of feral cats that inhabit the forest around a lake. They spend their time hunting, training as warriors, apprenticing as medicine cats, and fending off enemies—including badgers, humans, and other cats. All the felines are categorized under clan names such as Shadowclan, Riverclan, and Windclan, and there seems to be constant conflict among them. The cats all talk to each other, presumably in a language only other cats understand, using expressions such as bossy furball and mousebrain, insults in the cat world. It is recommended that readers of this YA novel start with Book One of the series if they do not want to be totally confused.

Meet the Author

Erin Hunter
Erin Hunter

Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior. She is also the author of the bestselling Seekers series.

Biography

Erin Hunter is the nom de plume of three British writers who create enthralling, animal-centric YA fantasies in the tradition of Brian Jacques's Redwall books. In 2003, they launched their bestselling Warriors series with Into the Wild, the story of a domesticated kitten who leaves the comforts of his human home to join a family of feral cats living in the woods. Introducing a captivating world where rival cat clans struggle for survival, the book was an immediate sensation with animal- and adventure-loving preteens. Since its debut, Warriors has become a genuine publishing phenomenon, spawning a string of six-book miniseries, each with its own distinct story arc.

The Erin Hunter collaboration is an unusual but highly successful one. Characters and story ideas emanate from editor Victoria Holmes, who keeps track of previous plot lines, ensures continuity, and coordinates the details of a complex and growing cast of characters. Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry take turns writing individual books; then everything is vetted again through Holmes, who checks carefully to make sure the stories are told in a single, unified voice. With different writing styles at work, this would seem a daunting task. However, in a 2006 interview, Holmes explained her modus operandi: "I think of it as being able to "speak Erin Hunter", like speaking a different language, and after working on [so many] scripts, I know pretty much at once if a line or phrase doesn't sound right."

Although the Erin Hunter books are written for young readers, they do not shy away from difficult material. The animals face life-threatening dangers and experience pain, grief, and loss -- sometimes even treachery within their own ranks. But the authors are always careful to reinforce positive messages about family, friendship, loyalty, and love. Independently, Holmes, Cary, and Baldry stay busy with their own writing and editing projects; but in 2008, they reunited for a second animal fantasy series. Seekers: The Quest Begins features a trio of bears from different species (black, polar, and grizzly), who join together for an adventure-filled odyssey that will change their lives forever.

Good To Know

Fun facts about "Erin Hunter" and the Warrior books, plus advice for aspiring writers:
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary have always loved cats -- and writing fantasy stories! Cherith is particularly interested in the stories of King Arthur, with all those glorious battles, knights, and a courtly code of behavior. Kate is fascinated by animal interaction and the way you can read all sorts of hidden motivation into what cats do. She's also not afraid of describing the goriest scenes!

Says Victoria Holmes, "I love being one of the Erins and frequently dream of being a cat running through a forest when I am coming up with new story lines. Teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working, but we love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single writer could."

They came up with the single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing their readers by having books from the same series filed in different places on the bookshelves.

Erin's advice for aspiring writers: "Read, read, and read some more! Make sure you read a wide variety of stories: fantasy stories teach you about making up completely new worlds, crime-solving stories teach you about handling a complicated plot, stories with lots of characters teach you how to describe relationships. Also, write as many stories as you can, even if no one else reads them. And remember that the best inspiration comes from what's around you -- Kate and Cherith go for long walks through the woods to find new locations for the cats to explore. They also spend hours watching their cats -- and other people -- to see how they behave in certain situations."

    1. Also Known As:
Erin Hunter is the pseudonym for three writers: Cherith Baldry, Kate Cary, and Victoria Holmes
    2. Hometown:
All three writers live in the U.K.

One of the best books ever!

This book is both thrilly and exciting. I found myself reading it all in one day. The charaters such as Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw grow towards each other. While others like Cinderpelt and Leafpool grow apart. In the beginning Leafpool can't get Crowfeather's words out of her head. She ends up not being able to contain it she gets into mischeif. Squrrielflight is as stuborn as usual and lets just say brambleclaws sour aditude doesn't help anything. This story is great until it leaves you hanging. I advise buying Sunset before reading this or you will be in a tough situation.

Another good book in the series!!!!

Twilight is another enthralling book in the series. I love how much you can see the characters grow and learn the lessons that they need to. It takes you deeper into the new territorys around the lake and surprises await around every conner of this book. And watch out, there is a cliff hanger so don't get this book without getting Sunset.

    Erin Hunter outdid herself!

This book was awesome!I love the way that Erin Hunter always has you at the edge of your seat.I couldn't wait to see how it would end!! It's cool to see how much Leafpool loves Crowfeather even though she's a medicine cat from another clan. I recommend this and all the warriors books. Oh and Seekers.

Greatest book in the second series!

Now that they are in they're new territory, the clans have to face a greater danger than before. And Squirrelflight and Leafpool have to choose: Loyalty to the clan, or something you need to find out yourself. READ IT

    Warriors

I'm not going to review everyone of these books. I plan to read them all.

I find the series fascinating, even though they are children' s books. They can appeal to all ages...look at Harry Potter.

I Like all the characters and enjoy watching them live their lives. I can see the lessons they teach children about life, and death. When I finish one book, I want the next one immediately. I think they are quite good.

    Twilight(Warriors Series)Author Erin Hunter

Bought the first book in this series for my grandson to read; now I'm addicted. Series has a bit of everything in its story lines...lessons in every day trials, survival, life challenges, meaning of friendship, loyalty, love and, most importantly, the consequences of actions and words. It's also just a fun, imaginative read.
The book covers are bright, colorful, well executed.
The recommended readers age is too narrow; these books can appeal to a much larger age range. I've lent books of the Warrior Series to some of my friends who love them and have begun to buy them for themselves, their kids and grand kids.
