Meet the Author

Stephenie Meyer is the author of the #1 bestselling Twilight Saga and The Host. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English literature, and she lives with her husband and three young sons in Arizona.

Biography

According to Stephenie Meyer, the idea for her sensational debut novel, Twilight, came to her in a vividly detailed dream in 2003. Over the course of three months, writing at night when her children were in bed, the young Mormon mother of three developed that dream into the spellbinding story of 17-year-old Bella Swan, who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to the tiny town of Forks, Washington, and falls in love with a beautiful, mysterious vampire named Edward Cullen. After feverish writing, painstaking editing, and a brief but frustrating round of queries, submissions, and rejections, Meyer finally connected with an editor at Little, Brown who fell in love with the manuscript and signed her to a three-book deal.

Twilight debuted in October, 2005. An immediate sensation, it appeared on several year-end best books lists and earned its author a rabid cult following among teenage girls. Since then, Meyer has continued Bella and Edward's story in bestselling sequels that have proved equally successful. Young readers cannot get enough of these riveting novels -- a captivating blend of vampires, romance, and suspense -- and parents rest easy knowing the books do not contain the graphic language and sexually provocative material that pervades some YA series.

Whether or not the Twilight Saga proves to have "Harry Potter legs" remains to be seen. Meanwhile, Meyer continues writing. She forayed into adult fiction with 2008's The Host, a chilling science fiction tale about the end of humanity, told from the perspective of an alien invader. And she makes it clear the door is open for further installments in her vampire romance. Clearly, this talented author has many more stories to tell.

Good To Know

Here are some fun facts from Stephenie's "unofficial" biography on her website:
"The unusual spelling of my name was a gift from my father, Stephen ( + ie = me ). Though I have had my name spelled wrong on pretty much everything my entire life long, I must admit that it makes it easier to google myself now."

" I met my husband, Pancho (his real name is Christiaan, but no one calls him that—it's not a long story, but it is a stupid one, so I'll skip it), when I was four, but we were never anywhere close to being childhood sweethearts. In fact, though we saw each other at least weekly through church activities, I can't recall a single instance when we so much as greeted each other with a friendly wave, let alone exchanged actual words.

This may have been for the best, because when we did eventually get around to exchanging words, sixteen years after our first meeting, it only took nine months from the first "hello" to the wedding."

" I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and that has a huge influence on who I am and my perspective on the world, and therefore what I write (though I have been asked more than once, 'What's a nice Mormon girl like you doing writing about vampires?')."

"I can't write without music, and my biggest muse is the [British rock] band Muse."

A transcript of the dream that inspired Twilight appears in the book as Chapter 13, "Confessions."

    Not a good value!

Buying the 5 e-books individually is a better value. The 4 main books cost 8.99, and the novella costs 9.99, adding up to less than the set.

Twilight rocks, this is why it doesn't suck

At first I was skeptical about Twilight. So, I tried it and criticized it. Now I love it! Here are my views on how others criticize the "saga." I rated it 5 stars but usually any review I post is posted as one star.

    1. "Bella is pathetic in New Moon"
    >After Edward dumped her, Bella spent months crying in her room distancing herself from everyone feeling sorry for herself.
Picture this. You are in love with someone. This could be a family member, or really good friend, or l'm referring to a spouse or beau. This person seems to somehow care even more about you. Also, this person is not human, but vampire. Vampires tend to have unnaturally good looks, so that could make them unnaturally easier to love. So, suddenly, out of the blue, this person you LOVE just ditches you. Leaves you alone in the WOODS. If a human boyfriend dumped you, it might take weeks to feel better, you might be crying in your bed for a few nights too. Wait, Edward is a VAMPIRE. So that makes everything worse when he leaves.

    2. Posted on New Moon, Eclipse, & Breaking Dawn "I hate Twilight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
    >Everyone has different opinions. An second, if you hate Twilight so much, why are you wasting your time posting it twenty times on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th books?!?!? I understand if it's on Twilight. You probably read it. But hating it then "forging on" the series just to post negative reviews on the books? How would YOU like it if you wrote a story that even though half the world, lives it, half the world is constantly PUBLICLY hating it? Use your time wisely and rant about Kidz Bop and Justin Bieber, OK?

    3. "OMG TEAM EDWARD"/ "OMG TEAM JACOB"
    >Nobody cares. If you like Edward and they like Jacob, more Jacob for them. If you like Jacob and they like Jacob, yea you are destined to be best friends! Just kidding.

    4. "I think Twilight rocks! Waaay better than that Harry Potter crud!"
    >Cool, Meyer has another fan! But THAT'S your review? What about what you liked? Was it descriptive? Do you love Edward or Jacob? Some people are all, oh this review was helpful, but really? You just have the same opinion. Big whoop.

    5. "It's not descriptive enough."
    >Read the preface. Read the back of the book. So poetic, right? And BTW Twilight is in first person. Do you really use the word "chagrin" or "sadistic" in your everyday speech? It's descriptive.

    6. "Bella's clingy."
    >You have one chance in life to date a vampire. He's totally handsome, mysterious, and has an awesome family. You're just jealous. Oh, wait, you don't have a chance because this is FICTION. I would be clingy if that one-in-infinity chance came along.

I love Twilight. Don't hate me because I like something you don't.

    Stop hating

Let me just start by saying, that I love this country. In this country you get to trash people, say mean things, get your frustrations out on the wrong people and get away with it. I personally like this series and you can learn lots from it, depending on the perspective you are reading it. If you like it, good, say you like it. If you don't, say it too, but with respect. I really get annoyed and offended when people don't think before they speak. They can do so behind a computer and get away with it. As I read these reviews, I am appalled at how people express themselves. How would you like it if someone spits and trashes that which you like? Not so good, huh? Let's be respectful of all opinions.

    This girl is totally correct

Listen, i dont like these books either but you dont have to act like a bunch of freakin immature babies about it. The reviews you write annoys the h*ll out of all of us and nobody appreciates it. You are abusing your nook privilages and acting like toddlers who poop and cry all the time. And yes, that is exactly what you sound like. Anybody who agrees with me, PLEASE write "this girl is totally correct" in the headline box. And all the editors and such, would you kindly find some way to restrict people from writing such spam and hateful messages? I would really appreciate it! There should be some way to resrict nook reviewing abilities for a good amount of time for this abuse. Thank you so much for reading my humble review and HOPEFULLY (hint hint) people see my point and bring attention to it. By gm

    Ridiculous!

I'm sorry, but to the people who say this is the worst series ever, get a life! The story line is absolutely amazing, and it has touched the hearts and minds of people every where. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but trashing a book series so popular is ridiculous and immature. I think S.M. has an amazing piece of work, and I know i really did enjoy this series. The books are way better than the movies for sure! :)

    more from this reviewer

I really liked the whole series of books.

It was great being able to read all of the story from beginning to end, without having to wait for the next book or movie to come out.
Of course like most books, this was much better than the movies. The movie New Moon doesn't follow the story plot. Twilight missed the plot also. Eclipse came the closest of sticking to the book plot.

Reading these books was easy. The characters were easy to follow.

Great Read! I recommend this series :)

I love this series despite all of the horrid reviews. Obviously millions of other love it, too. Besides most people reviewing a product do so to leave negative feedback. Seldom can you take ratings seriously, because of that. I wouldn't say this is the best choice for young readers, but young adults who like this subject-matter should find the read fast and interesting.

It cracks me up that bad reviewers share how quickly they read through the books and hated it from the first book, but somehow read the remaining books in the series??? Really??? If a writer isn't your style, why in the world would you read all of the books in the collection? Oh I know, because you did enjoy it and you did want to read the rest of the books.

Good job Stephenie! I think you did a great job of bringing the werewolves and vampires to life in your series! I love your characters!

Looking forward to reading the series again when my hardcover collection arrives. I also have the Nook collection. Enjoy the adventure!

Cheaper to buy in singles or iBooks bundle is cheaper

    ATTN BUYERS:

I was browsing through the iBooks selection for twilight then I compared it with B&N price... Overall, it is cheaper to buy each book seperately. If you like to buy in bundle, iBooks sells it cheaper (If you're comparing it to the posted price in B&N $46,99 vs iBooks $36.99).

I love this series. I have 2 sets of all 4 books in hardcover (1 set of which I sent as a gift to my cousins since they saw my collection). Anyhoo, the 1 star relates to the price and not to the story...

So I hope the buyers will take note of this prior to purchasing

    Pay extra for box set?

Buyer beware. When you add the prices of the idividual books it comes out to $45.95 so why is the box set $46.99? Even taking out Bree Tanner the 4 book box set is higher than the 4 individual books. This is the only series that I have seen priced this way. Usually it is the same price- are they charging for the box? Love the books but don't overpay.
