Twilight Sleep
The story is written around Pauline Manford, who, with an unlimited check book, seeks repose, harmony and beauty, through a number of cults, a rigid daily schedule of appointments, and a continual optimism which ignores unpleasantness. A busy husband, a son with a temperamental flapper wife, a daughter who is like none of them, and a first husband conveniently friendly, constitute the other characters-a world not heretofore entered by Mrs. Wharton.
