Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The Twilight Saga continues as the world's most beloved teen vampire story arrives in yet another package: the graphic novel. The story has remained the same: girl meets vampire, girl falls in love with vampire, vampire loves her back and almost gets her killed. Meyers's trilogy has captured by storm the anguished hearts of teens and romance readers—not to mention the jealous attention of the rest of the publishing industry. With each book in the saga, Meyers has built a devoted audience with an insatiable appetite for her series. Yen Press is clearly capitalizing on that audience with this graphic novel adaptation. The hardcover presentation and price-point signal that the book is intended as a collector's item and, at its best, another way to relive the Twilight experience. Unfortunately, this first half of the two-volume adaptation of Meyers's first book brings nothing new to the table. While Young Kim's paneling isn't terrible, her pacing is off, and the book reads unevenly. The dialogue is stilted and the characters come across as annoying rather than expressing longing. Twilight: The Graphic Novel reads like a first draft where all the pieces are there, but have yet to meld to one another and actually fit. There are certain angles and physical poses that Kim has not yet mastered, and they stand out starkly in this book. Nevertheless, retailers will be hard-pressed to keep copies of this book on their shelves. (Mar.)

The artist Young Kim breathes new life into the vampire series. In collaboration with Meyer, Kim combines delicate artistry and graphic elements to retell the story. The use of light and dark combined with splashes of color bring nuance to the graphic retelling of the novel. The layout reads with ease and enjoyment. For readers who are familiar with the Twilight story, this first volume concludes in the middle of Meyer's first novel. However, readers are likely to see more collaboration between the two because of their relationship. Meyers explains that "Young has done an incredible job transforming the words that I have written into beautiful images. The characters and settings are very close to what I was imagining while writing the series." Hence, this graphic novel provides insight into the author's vision as it is brought to life in this riveting new medium. Reviewer: Alison E. West

i've read twlight and the entire series many times and i was reluctant to buy the graphic novel.... i see now how it makes the story as bright, new and exciting as it as the first time. they did a great job and i can hardly wait for volume 2

Well to those who say the underwear is next its already been out for 2 years. If you dont like twilight I recommend that you dont read it. All the people saying how it sucks and is getting out of control, there is nothing wrong with a series of books that are successfull. If you think those movies are terrible for gods sake STOP WATCHING THEM! If you are sick of "Twilight-Mania" stay out of it and let the others who do enjoy it keep enjoying it.

If you loved the Twilight books before it became "Twilight Mania", then this is definitely for you. This book did what the movie was supposed to do. It gripped your emotions, captured your senses and finally put a face to the characters that we all know and love. Looking forward to Volume 2!

If you read the books before the first movie was released and were disappointed with the directors exclusion of integral scenes from the book then this graphic novel is the thing for you. I love how it nearly exactly mirrors the written book and the artwork is visually stunning. I have to say I am a HUGE Twilight fan in addition to being an anime and graphic novel fan. I would LOVE to see this released as an anime.

I believe that title says most of it. Whereas I to am going to purchase this first installment of the graphic novels, (mostly because the characters in this will be attractive, non-stoners who don't look like bunnies) I at least would have waited before writing a review, just in case my favorite scene was condensed, or the emotion wasn't conveyed properly. However, this little 'review' of mine had to be written, if only in response to the other 'reviews' that made no sense. Would you recommend, at a restaurant, the spaghetti you haven't eaten before? Some of you, maybe, since you're into foretelling future awesomeness, but for the rest of us, we'd like to hear it from someone who's actually eaten the spaghetti. Sigh. Spaghetti is good.

I actually really liked reading the graphic novel. It wasn't to anime-ish and it really stuck to the Twilight storyline. Young Kim did a really good job of portraying all the characters. Even if Bella looked just as beautiful and perfect as Edward. :)

Its short but if your a fast reader you can finish it in a hour or so. The pictures look like they came from the movie and jumped on to the page, i can really take my hat off to the illustrater they were great!!!!

I bought this because I love Twlight. I'm a little disappointed that there are parts of the story that are missing but the key points of the story are there. The drawings are beautiful though, very talented Young Kim does a wonderful job. Looking forward to the next book.

I loved it! I am a fan and think this was a great way to reach another audience! It really made me feel like I was part of the story. The art was fantastic and it had scenes in it the movie did not. That was great - it helped me remember more of the story! It was too short! Want to read the rest! Hurry and write it!

I've read the books and saw the movies (The movies weren't so good...) and now this? I was happy, being a fan of manga, for this addition. The art is wonderful. The only thing different is the events (but just a little different.) The story line is held and it is a refreshing new look at the first book. I can't wait till more come out.

It's got all you're favorite parts in it without you having to read the whole book. Its romantic and sexy. The best part for me was the art work,it was just beautiful.Young Kim drew Bella perfect. The only thing I didn't like was it ends after the meadow part{for those of you that have read the book},and I really wanted to read the whole book, but we'll have to wait untill part two. This was the first Graphic Noel ,that I've read.

This was a very creative book, that had awesome pictures and very dramatic facial expressions. I would definitely recommend this to any Twilight fan.

This book is an interesting take on the first part of the first Twilight book. The pictures are pretty and the dialogue follows the story line pretty well. I liked that the drawings were in black and white except for a few special pages. The sparkling of Edward was also really well done and was more how I imagined it than in the movie. My only disappointment was how short the book was. I wished that it was the entire first series book instead of a small part (it stops after the Meadow scene). If they're going to do the whole series, will it end up being like 8 or so books to collect? I will buy the second volume only if it was the rest of the first book and not only another small part of it.

I mean i love this book and the drawings in this graphic novel really correspond with the actual book, but i mean what the hell stephenie meyer! You bring out a graphic novel but not mid night sun! We know the story! you don't have to draw it out for us! just PLEASE BRING OUT MIDNIGHT SUN! The graphic novel is nice but midnight sun would be nicer! overall the graphic novel was good that is why i gave it five stars but i just WISH SHE WOULD BRING OUT MIDNIGHT SUN! SUCK IT UP AND KEEP WRITING IT!

This book is beautifully done. The graphic novel is able to show the true perfection of the characters in Stephenie Meyer's series that the movies can only touch on. Young Kim has done a fantastic job in showing the emotion of the characters while incorporating Stephenie's story into the art. Colors are used in a way that emphasize the characters mood or to show specific key points of the story. The story and pictures flow effortlessly. I decided to sneak a peek of it when I first got it and ended up reading half of it standing up. I cant wait for the rest of the series of graphic novels to come up. Bravo to Young Kim for a fantastic job and to Stephenie for letting Young Kim have free reign on this book.

The whole book is very true to the series. Love the way it was put into comic book for for even the youngest to understand.

I love the Twilight saga. I've read the series twice and I have seen both Twilight and New Moon countless times. If you enjoyed reading the books, you will enjoy this new medium as well. Reading the graphic novel was cool because you feel like you are inside of Stephenie Meyer's head. The illustrations are marvelously done as well. I'm looking forward to Volume II and the subsequent graphic novels to come.

I ordered my copy in Feb. when i found out only 300,000 copies were going to be sold, and i finally got my copy about an hour ago. I finished the whole thing a minute ago, LOVED it, but i was totally surprised when it was only half of the actual books contents, i was literally sucked into the art that i didn't notice i was done until the last page ended with: To be continued in Volume Two. Oh well i'll be on the pre-order list for that one too. The art was AMAZING, the story was sort of choppy and might not be understood by someone who hasn't read the book, but other than that the graphic novel is a must read along with the other books in the series.

For all the people out there who dislike all the Twilight things i am very impressed!! You guys sure spend a lot of time and energy in something you hate... i dont know about most people, but if i dont like something i ignore it and dont buy it, but a lot of you know so much about the accessories and everything! lol! you must secretly like it and are afraid to admitt it!! why else would you be looking these things up in the internet in the first place?? and writing such long 'reviews' on and unread book!!...You guys are amazing....comedy...cant stop laughing!! To everyone who has been asking about Midnight Sun, she is not going to release a final copy. If you go to her website she explains why and gives a link to the rough draft. I know that this may be terribly devastating, but we shall live. Although it may never be final, I find the rough copy to be quite good. You should all go check it out.

I am most likely going to buy this graphic novel but I am just dying to get my hands on a copy of Midnight Sun! Please I want Midnight Sun to come to life on the pages as I read the very words. Hope it comes out soon! Love every twilight thing no matter what anyone else says! I know I do!
