Overview

Much like Joni Mitchell, Dan Fogelberg, primarily a singer/songwriter, sought to continue his musical growth on this release by adding jazz to his sound. Rather than simply employing jazz musicians as his musical backing, Fogelberg here went for an all-out collaboration with jazz flutist Tim Weisberg, even to the point of having him co-produce the album. As experimental as the album appeared on the surface, it was the perfect mix of jazz-tinged instrumental music and folk- and country-inspired pop
ock. Proving that ambitious collaborations between artists who seek to mix genres needn't result in the commercial disappointment that many expect, the album yielded the hit "Power of Gold," which further augmented Fogelberg's commercial clout. The album, like its predecessor, Nether Lands, is beautifully produced, is best listened to as a complete effort, and still sounds strong all these years later.

This album is just another testament to how talented Dan Fogelberg is.I think ''The Power of Gold'',is a nifty piece of songwriting, and has a intensity of it's own.''Since you asked'',is done alot better here then the original by Judy Collins, and is as rythmic and soulful as songs come. The percussion is great, and the flute that Mr.Wiesberg brings to this is catchy.A terrific album,by a totally gifted artist.

I wore out 2 LPs of this work; so glad I found the CD as my turntable has completely died. I can't live without the songs on this album. What a beautiful blend of voices and music. Even after all these years, this album still sounds current. I know the Release date for the CD is 2008, but the original album is at least 20 years old. It's musicality doesn't fade.
