Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Crista and Betsy seem like they can read each other's minds. But when Crista has a very bad week and Betsy tries to empathize, it ends up with a fight. It all works out and kids learn how much the twins are alike and yet have their very own personalities, worries, and joys. It is a story that all siblings can relate to, and one twins should especially enjoy.
School Library Journal
Gr 2-3-- Crista is not having a good week. She is scolded by her teacher and then by her parents for not finishing her homework. She can't afford the new ``Jenny Archer'' paperback, and has to go to the dentist. But the worst is when her twin sister states that her week was worse than Crista's. This continuation of Twin Surprises (Holt, 1991) highlights the increasing individuality of these two girls. Black-and-white renderings depict events as the fast-paced story line moves quickly through nine chapters toward an interesting solution to Crista's troubles. Children who enjoyed the girls' first book will find this sequel just as appealing. --Jana R. Fine, Clearwater Public Library System, FL
Ilene Cooper
Eight-year-old Crista is having a very bad week. She's had a toothache, she was embarrassed in a store, and she's missing every cute thing her cat does. Twin sister Betsy tries to sympathize, to the point of thinking she has a toothache herself, but this only irks Crista, who "knows" she has it worse than her twin. While on the slight side, this will have some recognizable moments kids will enjoy. The twin angle and the jaunty pencil drawings are also pluses. Consider this for larger collections where beginning chapter books are popular.
