Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Two soft-covered board books just right for smallest hands celebrate popular rhymes with soothing illustrations by Sanja Rescek: Hickory, Dickory, Dock: And Other Favorite Nursery Rhymes and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: And Other Favorite Bedtime Rhymes. "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" depicts a multicultural cast of characters carrying out the activities alongside helpful numerals on one spread, while another spread shows Jack and Jill tumbling downhill, opposite a before-and-after illustration of Little Miss Muffet. The collection of nursery rhymes in this board book are focused on helping kids wind down the day and settle in for a good night's sleep. Many of the rhymes are well known, while some are only usually found in collections, such as "Come Lets to Bed," "Red Sky at Night," and "Girls and Boys, Come Out to Play." Interestingly, several of the rhymes did not strike me as encouraging kids to sleep, such as the last one previously listed. Also, non-Christian families should be aware that several of the rhymes feature Christian saints and angles who offer protection at night. The soft padded cover and rounded corners make this book perfect for toddlers. 2006, Tiger Tales/ME Media, Ages 2 to 5.

School Library Journal
PreS-Two cheerful, soothing collections. One or two selections appear per page; cartoon art full of smiles and warm pastels accompanies each rhyme and fills the spreads. The bedtime verses include "Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John" and the lyrics to the lullaby "All Through the Night." The board-book pages and squishy covers will withstand young children's affections. The familiarity of the rhymes and sweetness of the pictures will appeal to them.-Amelia Jenkins, Juneau Public Library, AK Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
