Wenlan Chia launched Twinkle in the fall of 2000 with a collection of colorful and exuberant hand-knit sweaters and accessories.     Great designs. Don't be mislead by the knitted measurements.

    I've made 3 of these sweaters 'and I'm working on the 4th' and they stretched out very much. I wish she made all of her designs in XS. The small size stretches out to about a womens size 4 'I wear a 2 in J.Crew sizes'. I realize not everyone is this small but someone size 10-12 could wear the Large. I also understand that this book isn't for everyone. The designs are modern, youthful, and most are chunky 'which tends to make the wearer look larger', so it isn't intended for plus sizes or someone over the age of 40. I just can't get enough of the chunky, stylish, modern, quick knits. I love finishing a sweater in one weekend 'even with how slow I knit'!

    goregous book

    I love this book, it is full of really cool and stylish knits, all done in bulky yarn. I'm posting to correct the misconceptions in the last two reviews. 1) there is an online page of errata - well, 3 pages, actually - like every other book I've bought in the last few years, it is full of them. Nothing beats Knitting Nature though for the amount of errors - another fab and cool book.... but this one is much simpler to follow! 2) Sizes - why is it people pay good money for books and are ready to discard them without really looking at them? In her preface, the writer clearly states that patterns are in 3 to 4 sizes XS or S, M, and L - which go up to a 38 bust. She stresses that one must ignore the knitted measurements, as these are meant to stretch to fit - negative ease, anyone?! This is great, as it stops the bulking effect one gets with thick yarns. In fact, whenever I knit a sweater from a Rowan bulky pattern, I always go down 2 sizes for the same effect. I made the hoodie in a medium and it is a little bit big, I could have used a small - and I am a medium......

    Beware - Wenlan Chia's Big City Knits Book

    THIS IS A WARNING. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT buy Wenlan Chia's Big City knit book until you have obtained an error list for all the patterns in the book. What a nightmare, and what a great expense, you start to think that you're the one whose crazy not her. Never in all my years of knitting have I ever come across a pattern or knitting book choc o block full of egregious errors. Buyers beware.

    Impossible to work with

    First of all, you should know that this book contains a great number of typos. I tried to knit one of the projects and it contained so many innaccuracies and things that are simple impossible to do that I have actually written to the company requesting my money back. It really is a horrible book. Perhaps they could have gotten someone to actually try to knit with the patterns in all the sizes to see if it works out, because, trust me, it doesn't. Save your money.

    Sizes are for size 4 and under (SERIOUSLY)

    These patterns are very pretty, but only a few of the patterns go as large as a 36 chest, the others are (SERIOUSLY) for busts as small as 24 inches. One of the 24 inch patterns has the largest available size instructions for 34 inches. These are meant to be a bit tight, but a 24' bust for an adult woman is unheard of, I have childrens patterns with chests of that same diameter. The main model is dangerously thin, and as someone recovering from an eating disorder, I found that alone very upsetting. Add that model's image to the fact that I would need to knit the large sizes throughout this book to be able to wear them (and I am a size 1-2) and it is just not the positive knitting experience I look for when I pick a book. I'll be passing on this book, which is really unfortunate because I was looking forward to it alot. If you want to knit with chunky yarns, take a look at the Yarn Girls books. If you are looking for designer looks, Loop d Loop, Fitted Knits, or Yarnplay might be a better fit. I did like that the pattern pages are made from a sturdier Matte finish paper, and the main garment pictures are on glossy paper.
