Overview

Sixteen-year-old Aden Stone has had a hell of a week. He's been:

Tortured by angry witches. Hypnotized by a vengeful fairy. Spied on by the most powerful vampire in existence. And, oh, yeah, killed—twice.

His vampire girlfriend might have brought him back to life, but he's never felt more out of control. There's a darkness within him, something taking over…changing him. Worse, because he was meant to die, death now stalks him at every turn. Any day could be his last.

Once upon a time, the three souls trapped inside his head could have helped him. He could have protected himself. But as the darkness grows stronger, the souls grow weaker—just like his girlfriend. The more vampire Aden becomes, the more human Victoria becomes, until everything they know and love is threatened.

Life couldn't get any worse. Could it?

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Twisted is another follow-the-leader book cashing in on the new paranormal romance craze. If you did not enjoy Twilight, avoid this book. In addition to its unsympathetic, obnoxious characters, Twisted seems to be confused as to whether it is a bodice-ripper or pre-teen romance. Perhaps the author tried too hard to make it a serious book. The more melodramatic plot elements would work better with a great deal more humor. 1Q, 2P. Reviewer: Antonia Ipser, Teen Reviewer
VOYA
The first clue that Twisted, the third title in Showalter's Intertwined series, is a disappointment is her excessive use of italics. Good writers can and do let their diction, timing, and tone create emphasis. Showalter, it seems, does not. Unfortunately, her trouble with something as simple as italics is just the beginning. The plot is overpowered by cloying dialog spoken by universally annoying characters who are painfully alike. Aden Stone, hottie, newbie vampire, is inhabited by four individual spirits, each capable of a unique supernatural power. Sometimes these souls live in Victoria Tepes, his equally hot girlfriend and vampire royalty who saved his life by converting him before he could succumb to a fatal stabbing. It is almost impossible to figure out who is doing the talking—any of the souls or Victoria or Aden. This confusion reigns, not only in scenes involving vampires, but also in the human world. Add to that the fact that every voice is spoiled and not terribly intelligent, and the result is a confusing, annoying reading experience. Aden and Victoria's insatiable desire for each other's blood coupled with the requirement that they do not kill one another by going too far works as a nice construct for barely-veiled and forbidden sexual consummation. Showalter does know how to create steamy scenes but romance aficionados would do better to jump from one to the next rather than read the intervening text. Twisted will undoubtedly attract Twilight fans who yearn for an exciting plot mixed with chaste supernatural desire. They will not find it here. Reviewer: Lauri J. Vaughan
Kirkus Reviews

Sluggish pacing and an overwhelming number of characters will once again test fans' devotion to this paranormal-romance series.

When readers last saw Aden Stone, he'd been turned into a vampire by his girlfriend, vampire princess Victoria, in a desperate attempt to save him after being stabbed by his best friend Mary Ann's ex-boyfriend Tucker, who was being controlled by Victoria's father, Vlad the Impaler. Yes, really. The soap opera continues as Aden and Victoria nearly kill each other by cross-feeding their blood back and forth. As Aden's vampiric powers increase, Victoria becomes more human, losing her mind-controlling voice, teleportation abilities and diamond-hard skin—but gaining empathy and a truly tender heart. Meanwhile, Mary Ann has fled to Tulsa, Okla., (demonic Tucker and devoted shape-shifter Riley following close behind) to research the three supernaturally powered souls living in Aden's consciousness, hoping to purge them from his mind. Both Aden and Mary Ann face a variety of brutal vengeance-seekers, including Victoria's long-lost brother Sorin, witches, fairies and, once again, Vlad the Impaler. Showalter's strength is in playing with conventions of various paranormal mythologies. Plotting and cast management, not so much: The pace here might charitably be called stately, while her cast of characters threatens to spill out of these overstuffed pages.

A major last-chapter twist will either delight readers or drive them, finally, around the bend. (Paranormal romance. 14 & up)

Good To Know

Gena credits much of her success to her wonderful fans, amazing family, and the three slobbery English bulldogs who sleep under her desk. She is a self proclaimed coffee addict and when she's not writing she likes to...well, we're not sure. We've never seen her do anything but write.

Read an Excerpt

Aden Stone stared down at the girl sleeping on the rocky dais. Long hair the color of a wintry midnight, dark yet glimmering like the moonlight on snow, spilled over slender shoulders. Spiky black lashes cast shadows over high, model–sharp cheekbones. Lush pink lips glistened with a sheen of moisture.

He'd watched her lick those lips several times, and he knew. Even lost to slumber as she was, she scented something delicious and craved a taste.

Taste… Yes…

Her skin was snow–white yet constantly flushed a deep rose in all the right places. Not one flaw did she possess. Not a single line or wrinkle—even though she was over eighty years old.

Young, for her kind.

She wore a tattered black robe that draped from just under her arms to the tips of her toes. Or would have, if she hadn't rucked the material up one of her legs. The slender limb was bent and angled outward. A feast for his gaze, perhaps even an I–want–you–to–drink–from–the–vein–in–my–thigh invitation.

He should resist.

He couldn't resist.

She was the most beautiful female he'd ever seen. Fragile–looking, dainty. Like a priceless piece of art in the one and only museum he'd ever toured. The curator had slapped his hand for trying to touch something he shouldn't.

No need to guard this one, he thought with a small smile. She could protect herself, snapping a man's neck with a single twist of her wrist.

She was a vampire. His vampire. His sickness and his cure.

Aden placed one of his knees on the makeshift bed. The T–shirt that stretched underneath the girl, cushioning her ever so slightly, snagged underneath his weight and pulled tight, rolling her in his direction. She didn't moan or utter a breathy sigh as a human might have done. She was quiet, eerily so. Her expression remained the same: serene, innocent…trusting.

You shouldn't do this.

He was going to do this.

He wore a pair of ripped, bloodstained jeans. The same jeans he'd worn the night of their first date. The night his entire world changed. She wore the robe and nothing else. Sometimes their clothing was the only thing that kept them from doing more than drinking from each other.

Drinking from each other. Or "feeding." So mild a word for what happened. He would never purposely hurt her, but when the madness came upon him—hell, when the madness came upon her—affection was forgotten. They became animals.

You shouldn't do this, what was left of his conscience repeated.

One more drink, and I'll leave her alone.

That's what you said last time. And the time before that. And the time before that.

Yeah, but I mean it this time. He hoped.

Once, he would have been talking to the three souls trapped inside his head. But they weren't inside his head anymore, they were inside hers, and he'd reverted to talking to himself. At least until the monster awoke. An honest to God monster, prowling through his conscious, roaring, desperate for blood. The monster the sleeping girl had inadvertently given him, the monster responsible for his new favorite sport—jugular tapping. Then he didn't talk to anyone at all.

Down…down Aden leaned until his chest flattened against the vampire's. He placed his hands at her temples and balanced his weight. The tips of their noses were a mere whisper apart, yet he wanted to be closer to her. Always closer.

He applied more pressure to his left hand, the soft strands of her hair pulling as tight as the T–shirt had done, causing her head to loll in that direction and exposing the elegant length of her neck. At the base, her pulse thumped steadily.

Unlike the bloodsuckers of myth, she was not dead. She was a living, breathing being, born rather than created, and more alive than anyone he'd ever met. Unless he accidently killed her, of course.

I won't.

You might. Don't do this. Just a sip…

His mouth watered. He inhaled…and felt as if he were breathing for the very first time. Everything was so new, wondrous…he held the breath…held…could almost taste the sweetness of her blood already…slowly released. No relief was forthcoming, just an increased awareness of that ever–present hunger. He ran his tongue over his teeth, his aching gums. He didn't have fangs, but, oh, he wanted to bite her. Wanted to drink her down. Savor, drink again. Drink, drink, drink.

Even without fangs, he could bite her. And, if she were human, he could drain her dry. But because she was vampire, her skin was as hard and smooth as polished ivory. Reaching a vein with his teeth was impossible. He needed je la nune, the only substance capable of burning through that ivory. Problem was, they'd run out. Now, there was only one way to get what he wanted.

"Victoria," he rasped.

She must not have recovered from their last interlude, because she gave no indication that she heard him. A flicker of guilt pierced his hunger. He should get up, move away from her. Let her rest, recover. She'd fed him so much blood over the past few days—weeks? years?— she couldn't have much left.

"Victoria." He couldn't stop her name from rolling off his tongue. The hunger.truly, it never left him. Only grew, slithering around him, clamping down on his soul. Still. He'd take just a drop, the taste he'd promised himself, and then he would at last leave her alone. She could go back to sleep.

Until he needed more.

You won't take any more, remember? This is the last time.

"Wake up for me, sweetheart." He pressed their lips together, harder than he'd intended. A kiss for his Sleeping Beauty.

Like the girl in the fairy tale, Victoria blinked open her lids, the length of her lashes separating, connecting, separating for good. Then he was peering into eyes of the purest crystal. Deep, fathomless. Glazed with a hunger of their own.

"Aden?" She stretched like a kitten, her arms rising above her head, her back arching. A purr rumbled from her throat. "Is it bad again?"

The robe gaped over her chest, just a little, but enough, and he caught a glimpse of the tattoo etched above her heart. A faded black—soon to disappear altogether, just as her others had done—with multiple circles swirling into each other and connecting in the middle. Not just a pretty decoration, but a ward, a spell inked into her skin to protect her against death, and the only thing that had saved her life as she'd poured most of her blood down his throat that first time.

He wished he knew how long ago that was, but time had ceased to exist for him. There was only here and now and her. Always her. Always this, the hunger and the thirst blending into a feral, consuming urge.

Her knee came up to rest against his hip bone, and he

settled more firmly against her. Such an intimate position. No time to enjoy. They had a minute, maybe two, before the voices would destroy her concentration and the roar of the beast would claim his.

A minute before they both became as dark as their natures demanded.

"Please," was all he said. Black spiderwebs were forming in his line of vision, thickening, closing in, until her neck was all that he could see. The ache in his gums was unbearable, and he was afraid he was drooling.

"Yes." She didn't hesitate. She wound her arms around him, her nails sinking into his scalp, and drew him down for a kiss.

Their tongues met, thrust together, and for a moment, he lost himself in her sweetness. She was rich chocolate smoothly mixed with chili peppers, creamy yet spicy.

If only he were simply a boy and she were simply a girl, they would kiss, and he would try for more. She might deny him. She might beg him to continue. Either way, they would care only about each other. Now, as they were, nothing mattered more than the blood.

"Ready?" she breathed. She was his dealer, his supplier and his drug, all wrapped in the same irresistible package. He wanted to hate her for that. Part of him— the new, sinister part—did hate her. The rest of him loved her immeasurably.

Sadly, he feared the two parts would one day war.

Someone always died in a war.

"Ready? " she asked again.

"Do it." A growl so hoarse he sounded more animal than human.

Was he human anymore? He'd been a magnet for the paranormal his entire life. Maybe he'd never been human. Not that he cared about the answer right now.

Blood.

The ferocity of their kiss increased. Without pulling away, Victoria flicked her tongue across her fangs, cutting the tissue straight down the center. Nectar of the gods welled, the taste of chocolate and spice instantly replaced by champagne and honey, intoxicating him. His head swam with dizziness as his body temperature rose.

He sucked the blood quickly, before her wound had time to close, taking every drop he could, every swallow ringing a groan of rapture from him. His temperature rose another degree, another still, until fire poured through him, burning him up, scorching him to ash.

He recognized the sensation. Not too long ago, his mind had merged with that of a male vampire. A vampire roasting inside a death pyre. Aden had felt as if he were the one drenched in flames.

Soon after that, his mind had merged with a fairy's. A fairy with a knife in his chest, the beat of his heart no longer saving him but destroying him, the blade sinking deeper and deeper.

Both instances had been a lesson in pain, but neither compared to Aden's own stabbing, when his body had been the one violated. And if not for the girl beneath him, he would have died.

He and Victoria had thought to celebrate their victory against a coven of witches and a contingent of fairies… alone, together. From the shadows had jumped a demon in human skin, his knife embedded in Aden's chest— yes, everyone always went for the heart—before he could blink.

Victoria should have let him go. His stabbing had been predicted by one of the souls. Aden had expected it. He might not have been prepared for it, but he had known he wasn't meant to have a future beyond that point.

And really, he and Victoria would have been better off if she'd let him go. Fact: you didn't mess with fate without paying a price. He should be dead, and Victoria should be free of his baggage. But panic had bloomed inside her. He knew, because he remembered the high–

pitched tenor of her screams. Could still feel the way her hands had clutched at him, shaking him as life flowed out of him. Worse, he could still feel the white–hot tears slipping from her face onto his.

Now, she was paying for her actions. She might continue to pay until Aden accidentally killed her—or until she killed him. A life for a life. Wasn't that how the universe worked?

This time, he expected to die from the inferno Victoria's blood was creating inside him. Instead, he found himself.calming. Not just calming, but thriving, his limbs growing stronger, his bones vibrating with energy, his muscles flexing with purpose.

This had never happened during a feeding. Wasn't supposed to happen now. They drank, they fought and they passed out. He didn't recharge like a battery.

When the blood on her tongue dried up—far too soon—he was reminded of his need, need, need now, and he stopped worrying about the repercussions, stopped caring about his reactions.

"Victoria," he croaked.

"More?" she asked, breath emerging shallowly. Her nails were leaving track marks down his nape and along his shoulders. The hunger must be coming upon her, too.

Even without her monster, the beating heart of her vampire nature and the driving force of Aden's new menu selection, she craved blood. Maybe because it was all she'd ever known. Maybe because she was as addicted as he was.

"More," he confirmed.

Once again she razed her tongue against her fangs. A new wound opened up. Blood welled, though not as much and not as quickly. Still he sucked and sucked and sucked.

Not enough, not enough, never enough.

Within seconds the blood stopped leaking. He didn't want to hurt her, couldn't let himself hurt her, but he found himself biting her tongue; unlike her skin, this flesh was soft and malleable. She moaned, but not in pain. He'd accidentally cut his tongue, too, and his blood was trickling into her mouth.

"More," she said, a demand now.

His hands tangled in the silky length of her hair, fisted. He angled her head, allowing deeper access for them both. So good.

She'd once told him humans died when vampires attempted to turn them. She'd also mentioned that the vampires attempting the turning died as well. At the time, he hadn't understood why.

Now, he understood—but the knowledge cost him.

When she'd taken what remained of his blood and poured her own straight into his mouth, they'd done more than swap DNA, more than trade his souls for her monster. They'd swapped and traded everything. Memories, likes, dislikes, abilities and desires, back and forth, back and forth, until he sometimes couldn't tell what was his and what was hers.

Had he once been whipped with a cat–o'–nine–tails? Had he once drained a human to death? Had he once stumbled upon a sick shape–shifting bear clan and doctored them to health?

A muted rumble—a yawn?—in the back of his mind claimed his attention. The monster. Actually, demon was a better description for Chompers. Aden felt utterly possessed by him. A feeling he should have been used to. Only, Chompers was nothing like the souls—he wasn't affable like Julian, perverted like Caleb, or caring like Elijah. Chompers thought only of blood and pain. The taking of blood—and the giving of pain.

When he took over, Aden became more predator than man. He hated himself as much as he hated Victoria. Which was surreal. Chompers adored Aden. He truly did. He enjoyed being inside Aden's mind and didn't fight to leave him as he'd always fought Victoria. But even still, Chompers had a violent temperament, and that violent temperament demanded its due.

Sometimes Aden and Victoria switched back, the souls returning to him, Chompers returning to her. They would quickly switch again, however. And again and again and again. And each time edged them closer and closer to insanity. Too many memories swirling together, too many conflicting needs. One day soon, they would tumble off that edge completely.

"Aden," Victoria said, panting, his name broken. "I must…have to…"

He knew what came next.

She angled his head, just as he'd done to her, and a moment later, her mouth left his. He didn't like that. Her fangs sank into his jugular. He didn't like that, either, and hissed out a breath. Once upon a time, her bite had felt good. In her mindless state of hunger, she'd lost her finesse, and those fangs sliced into a tendon. He didn't try to stop her, though. She needed to drink just as much as he did.

Footsteps echoed through their cave, resonating like a buzzer.

Aden didn't panic. Victoria could teleport anywhere she'd been before, had even whisked them here the night of his stabbing. He didn't know where "here" was, or when she'd visited, he knew only that hikers occasionally wandered inside. None had ever traveled this far and this deep, and he doubted that would change.

He and Victoria could have gone somewhere else, he supposed, somewhere even more remote. Might have been safer, being as far away from civilization as possible. There was a target on Aden's back, after all, Victoria's father having come back from the dead to reclaim his throne. Or rather, Vlad the Impaler was trying to reclaim the throne.

The third Aden Stone teen urban fantasy is an engaging character driven thriller

The souls that shared his head are apparently gone since his girlfriend Victoria Tepes the vampire queen brought Aden Stone back from the dead. He has doubts she did the right thing as he was already adjusted to being demised because one of his missing voices Elijah told him he would be stabbed to death.

Aden fears his loss of control having spent a life in a nut house he knows what keeping the beast at bay means. As he increasingly turns feral, he slams his beloved Victoria into a wall and chokes her. His abusive aggression hurts his soul though he fights the animal urges trying to restrain it. Worse, Victoria feels guilt for changing her beloved kind Aden into this nasty individual and lets him abuse her as she believes she deserves it. Her bodyguard Riley and her loyal vampiric subjects with a few stragglers are prepared to kill Aden if he continues on the path he is taking.

The third Aden Stone teen urban fantasy (see Unraveled and Intertwined) is an engaging character driven thriller that fans of the saga will appreciate as more of the Showalter mythos surfaces. Sort of the paranormal Job, Aden struggles with what is happening as he looks back to his loner days when shrinks labeled him a schizophrenic with four bickering voices arguing inside his head; he concludes relationships are so difficult. Although the overarching theme does not move forward until a stunning late Twisted spin, Gena Showalter provides an exciting entry.

    Amazing, but with a Twist

I loved this series, I loved all the books, it was awesome. It had a great story lots of action and a good plot. One thing I didn't like was not everything was truly explained, some topics and ideas when talked about but not in enough detail I thought. But still this is an awesome series that is a much better Vampire one then Twlight. There is also a big twist at the end of this book. I like how in the end it leaves the reader to decide, which I liked but I know not everyone would. I would recommend this series to everyone

Twisted is the perfect title for this book - if your a fan, wait until book 4 is released to read twisted.

Twisted is the perfect title for this book. Gena Showalter has literally twisted the world that Aiden lives in leaving me feeling lost, confused and a little peeved at the ending. One of the reasons I have enjoyed the series so much is because the characters are genuine. It was Victoria's tenacity, Aiden's selfless humanity, Maryann's Sincerity and Riley's fierce loyalty that originally drew me deeper and deeper into the story. Twisted breaks these characters and finds them stripped of all they trust and fight for.

For those of you that have read the first two books Intertwined and Unraveled, I would wait to read Twisted until the final book is released (untitled June 2012). Gena Showalter is a very talented author and I am certain has an incredible and shocking ending to the series planned. One that will make me want to read Twisted again because it will make more sense. I am certain Twisted is an emotional set up for book four.

I gave Twisted three skullies because I am invested in the series and I have faith that it will all make sense when I read the 4th book. What I did like was seeing the characters more subdued personality traits surface. Maryann is actually a little smart mouth and it was kind of funny. The other positive aspect of this book was finally meeting Victoria's brother.

    Review: Twisted

I wasn't sure what to expect from book 3 in this series. I've been up and down with this series so far, and wasn't sure were the author might take me with this one. First off, if your expecting to this to be the last one...it's not. I thought it was going to be a trilogy for some reason, and was really worried that the storyline might be rushed because Aden still had 3 souls. I am relieved to find that there is at least one more. Second I'm curious about how this book might have changed from ARC to final copy. You see, the ARC was almost 600 pages long. And while I enjoyed it overall, at time I thought it was never going to end. I see the finished copy has just over 300. I would be curious to see it.

The beginning of this book is ... intense. I felt like I was intruding on somebody's private life. Aden and Victoria are basically fighting to survive and to keep from killing each other. They take turns feeding off each other, but it feels like so much more than that. When they finally seem to gain control of themselves, I was intrigued to discover that they seem to have swapped personalities. Aden is the hardcore vampire while Victoria is the vulnerable human. They've switched powers too. I liked watching Aden struggle with his conflicting emotions. He's human memories keep clashing with his vampire instincts. I also really liked watching him stake his claim as the Vampire King. I also really felt sorry for him when they discover his real father. Turns out the missing dad is a real a*$hole.

With as much going on in Aden's life, you might thing that Riley and Mary Anne might have an easy go of things. Not on your life. Mary Anne might be trying to protect everyone by running away, but she doesn't know that she has witches and fairies following her. When they try to kill her, Riley has to do something extraordinary to save her life. And it has dire consequences. I'm hoping it doesn't mean the end of Mary Anne and Riley. They can figure it out.

This book is a never ending ride of twists, intense actions, and those emotional moments. It's not surprise that I'm also left with a giant cliff-hanger. I'm curious at who had caused the chaos, and what will happen next.

    Dark, fast paced, and brutal!

Aden: He was stabbed fulfilling the prophesy but he didn't die. Victoria wouldn't allow it. The souls have left him for now, but something worse has taken residence inside of him. A cold darkness that he can't control.

Victoria: Guilt stabs her every time she looks at Aden. He wouldn't be like this if it wasn't for her. He has changed, and so has she. Humanity doesn't suit her at all.

Mary Ann: Every supernatural is out for her blood, she can't get rid of her own personal demon, and staying away from Riley is ripping her heart in two. Now more than ever she must be strong, assertive, and bold. Words that have never described who she is.

Riley: Never one for giving up, Riley will look for Mary Ann even if she is a danger to all. What he never dreamed was that saying a thing and experiencing it are not the same. One thing will always remain, he will do anything to protect her.

Dark, fast paced, and brutal are words I would use to describe this third book of the Intertwined series. The characters are constantly in danger of being killed by enemies and even by friends. There are a lot of issues between them too, basically because they are all stubborn in their own ways. I've traveled this far with these characters, so I also felt sad for all the bad things happening to them. I mean, they couldn't catch a break! The ending left me breathless; I so didn't want it to end there. I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration. And the fourth book doesn't even have a date set!

My overall feeling is tired; I just feel sad, and exhausted after reading this. It really was bad thing after bad thing with minimal comic relief. The tension and the worry all make for an exciting book but.where's the hope? Why should I return to read the fourth book? To read about more awful things? I sure hope not.

I will, however, praise Gena because writing a book with one POV is hard, and writing one with two and pulling it off requires skill. What does it mean to write a great book with four equally engaging POVs? I think its pure writing genius. And this is what she does in the Intertwined series; she delivers us an exciting story with four extraordinary characters. Not once will you feel the urge to skip to the next POV because the one you're reading is to slow, or not interesting.

Both my teen & I love this series...

    My Review:
This book was not on my TBR list for this week, but my 16 year old teenage son has been reading this series with me and finished the book last night. He was so shattered by the book that he insisted I read it immediately so that we could discuss it. That should give you a hint of the upheaval in this book...there is a LOT of it.

This is an amazing series and it needs to be read as a series. These are not stand-alone books in my opinion. There is too much story that continues to build upon itself. This is book #3 in a series that is supposed to end with the next book. How in the world it is going to end, I have no idea. Quite honestly, I don't think Gena knows how it is going to end at this point. Every book, she talks about how hard they are to write, but that effort is evident in the quality of the books, because they are very good!

There are a core of four characters that flow throughout the series.
*Aden- he was born with the souls of 4 other people living within his brain. He is 16 and throughout the series, he is trying to release those souls although they have been like his parents to him his entire life. He was raised in the foster system and spent most of his life in and out of institutions because of the souls and the prevailing thought that he is schizophrenic.

*Victoria- vampire princess and Aden's love interest. She goes through such a huge transition throughout this book as a person and vampire.

*Riley- wolf shifter and bodyguard for Victoria. His transition throughout this book was the most heart-breaking to me. I just hope that something changes for him in the next book. He is involved with MaryAnne.

*MaryAnne- human that is somehow connected to Aden. They were born the same day and when they met, it set off a chain of events that set off the entire series. At the end of this novel, she is in a very bad place...at least headed there. Things are not looking well for MaryAnne...thinking positive thoughts for book #4.

*Tucker- MaryAnne's ex-boyfriend and half-demon. He is in such a Catch 22. His story breaks my heart all the way around and I really did not like where it went in this book. Not sure that anything can change, but am still hoping for book #4.

This book really didn't end well for any of the characters. I can deal with that, BUT OMG, the next book isn't supposed to be out until June, 2013!?!?! I am not sure that I can deal with that. I think that I am going to have to go live with Gena while she is writing to make sure that she settles everything correctly for these characters that I have grown to love.

Twisted gives us more twists! A must read!!!

I wasn't sure I was going to review Twisted not because I didn't love it (I did) but when I first started on this Journey with these characters it was way before I started reviewing books and blogging. This was one of those books/series I was thinking of keeping to myself, but when I read Twisted and fell back in love with Gena's writing and these characters I knew it wouldn't be fair to keep it to myself. I had to share my thoughts and feelings with you all.

If you haven't read book one or two Intertwined and Unraveled don't worry I'm not going to spoil anything just try not to read the synopsis above.

Let's just start by saying the first two chapters were really strange I get it but man it was crazy! Then after those we get settled back in to the normal stuff. When I started these books I really loved Aden and I still do but, as the story has progressed I have found myself totally and completely in Love with Riley and also Mary Ann. Riley just has this sense of humor that had me giggling almost every page he was on and Mary Ann has grown into a strong character I'd love to see them have a spin off story or a novella. Aden is still the MC of this series though and he goes through some wicked changes and so does his girlfriend Victoria.

I don't want to delve into the story much because there's too much to spoil but trust me this is a must read if you have read the other two and if you haven't get them all they're worth it! I can't wait for book 4 in this series since Twisted left us with a pretty big WTH moment!

Twisted is available now so buy it now!

    What an Aptly Named Disappointment.

What an aptly named disappointment. If you're looking for a continuation of all the wonderful things happening in the first two installments of this series, than be prepared to get nowhere fast.

Normally I write a brief summary of the book and then an evaluation but I am truly at a loss for a real concrete storyline. Yeah Aden got somewhere with the souls in his head but Showalter spent a majority of the book on Aden's new alter ego and complete character reversals for our two main couples. Everyone changed so drastically so fast that I found myself wondering who are these people and where did the wonderful characters I loved so much go?

When I first picked up Intertwined I was blown away, I mean vampires, werewolves, witches, necromancy, a couple of interesting wildcard paranormals and two love stories, this book has everything I love about the genre. I invested in this intriguing story and got involved with these characters. I looked forward to the continuation of these books every long year. And now I feel like the author just trashed everything I invested in.

I think Gena Showalter is the truly twisted one here. To wait a year for a book that makes me think even the author wasn't happy with the direction so she went completely insane with the characters, extra light on the storyline, and destroyed everything just so she could have a do over.

This book is about 98% filler. I get the idea of Twisted, but with a weak storyline and without the anchor of the characters and romances the fans have grown to like it became muddled and confusing at times. Showalter let go of everything all at once so it was hard to hold on to the bits and pieces I came back for. Just when I find a familiar character or relationship, it's pulled out from under me and I'm left flailing for some point of interest. Twisted was executed poorly and was an unnervingly drastic change from the previous books. I wish the author would have just kept the important parts, left out the weird character developments, and moved on with the story.

Ive waited a few months for this book and it was well worth the wait. It surpassed the expectatioms i had for it and set a new bar for gena to overcome. It well deserves the 5 stars but if anything were to be changed in it there could be more of an explaniation of the begining for those who havent read the previous books in a while.
